Watching unidentified aircraft crisscross with thin trails of white stuff that later turns to weird clouds makes me angry. I’d shoot the bastards down if I could so maybe it’s a good idea that God hasn’t blessed me with a rocket launcher. G. Edward Griffin has produced an excellent documentary aptly named “What in the World are they Spraying”. The hour plus video show formally pristine areas of the world with sky-high levels of aluminum, barium and strontium along with biological pathogens.

Aluminum is a confirmed killer for people, animals and plant life. Aluminum blocks the uptake of the important nutrient Calcium. Every cell in you body requires Calcium for life. As bad as this is for people it is immediately deadly for our food supplies. These United Nation sanctioned spraying programs are in fact salting the fields so they cannot produce crops for many years. This spraying of these metals is eugenics - check out the salting of the Carthaginian’s fields and see how evil these plans are.

Once Aluminum has been sprayed in sufficient concentration healthy plants cannot grow. A remedy for this aluminum poisoning may be found in nature. Natural occurring Zeolite a volcanic mineral that is oddly enough made up of Calcium Aluminosilicates can sequester aluminum in place. This is due to the polarization of the mineral. Natural Zeolites are used primarily as an odor control in kitty litter and are fairly inexpensive. They have been used to filter radioactive water, as a feed additive for cattle, a food supplement, stall fresheners, water softeners and to mitigate the effects of nuclear radiation in Russia.

Currently I am taking 150mg of zeolite to mitigate the effects of the petrochemicals from the Gulf Disaster. I use in my garden also. Zeolite may not save your current plants but adding to soil and water before planting seems to work well.

In 1989 I started a company to introduce Natural Zeolites to the public and we tried a number of crazy novel uses. I never thought it someday might help save mankind.

Bacteria and Algae produce most of the earth’s oxygen. A simple explanation of the process is there are 2 types of bacteria, aerobic and anaerobic. Aerobic bacteria (oxygen loving) produce oxygen and carbon dioxide as a byproduct; anaerobes off gas hydrogen sulfide, methane, sulfur dioxide and many other VOC’s toxic to humans.

There is a natural balance that has developed to degrade organic matter and produce beneficial gasses needed for life. If you’ve ever dealt with a septic system you witnessed this vital life cycle. Get the system out of balance –things begin to stink quickly.
This happens in the natural dead zones of the Gulf of Mexico where anaerobes take over the biodegradation of the organic material and that eats up the oxygen needed for the aerobic bacteria to take over.

Corexit and Methane have undermined the fragile bio balance by killing off the aerobic bacteria and algae(cyanobacteria) leaving only the Anaerobes to consume oil and other organics and off gas toxic H2S and other VOC’s. These VOC’s displace oxygen and deadly to all air breathing life. Hydrogen Sulfide is a killer, its kills people in sewer systems and on drilling rig floors every year. This rotten egg smelling gas was used to kill in the California Death Chamber.

BP killed off trillions and trillions of friendly oxygen loving and producing bacteria that have dropped oxygen levels in the Gulf waters and atmosphere. These deaths may have horrific ramifications to those of us who breathe oxygen.
Why isn’t the EPA reporting the oxygen levels in the town and cities of the gulf? If levels fall much below 20% millions of American citizens will be in danger of plagues and widespread diseases due to hypoxia.
My senses tell me that may be the plan.

A Houston man has been charged with alleged "unlawful carry of a weapon" after he and his girlfriend were pulled over by Houston Police earlier this month. Stark gun rights advocates, the Houston couple decries the treatment they received by public servants despite doing absolutely nothing wrong. Supporters of Congressman Ron Paul during the 2008 presidential campaign, Matt and Lisa are wondering if they ought to move to New Hampshire to join the free state project.

The evening started innocently enough, with an uneventful trip to Walmart. The family dog, a three month old terrier named Ginger, was sick, and they went to pick up some suppplies. Almost as soon as they hit the street, the police turned on their lights to stop them; Matt pulled over in a hospital parking lot off Hwy 59. The officer didn't tell the couple why they were stopped, but he made the driver get out of the vehicle and conducted a body search. The officer then found a pill on the driver's seat.

"The big, fat sweaty cop flew off the handle, screaming "what is this, what is this?" & told me to put my hands on the dash, in fact screamed it", Lisa recalled. "Needless to say, the guy is a complete **** . I put my hands on the dash because I didn't want to get shot, not tonight anyway."

In reality, it was a prescription pain pill for a leg injury Matt had, so the drug bust of the century was not to be found in this car. Matt recalls, "the cop found the pill on my seat and was going to charge me with that. After searching my car, he found the prescription bottle for it in my center console so his big "drug case" went to hell."

A second officer arrived on the scene and tried to make small talk with Lisa, while Matt was placed in handcuffs and put in the squad car. The first cop then came back and asked Lisa where the couple had been going. She told him she didn't have to answer any of his questions, and was subsequently placed in handcuffs herself and removed from the vehicle. Police searched her purse without cause and then proceeded to search the car without consent from the occupants. Standing approximately seven feet away, Lisa saw the officer find the loaded gun under the seat.

Matt recalls, "that's when he found my gun and claimed that it was "out in the open" as if placing a handgun UNDER THE SEAT is out in the open."

Title 10 of the Texas Penal Code, Sec. 46.02. UNLAWFUL CARRYING WEAPONS, states: "(a) A person commits an offense if the person intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries on or about his or her person a handgun, illegal knife, or club if the person is not: (1) on the person's own premises or premises under the person's control; or (2) inside of or directly en route to a motor vehicle that is owned by the person or under the person's control". The statue also states that the person 'commits an offense' if 'the handgun is in plain view'.

While being detained, Lisa recounted a third officer, a Sergeant, approach her to make small talk. "Sergeant Nice Guy felt bad for us but did nothing to stop what was happening. He asked me what I thought of cops mostly. We talked about anarchy & the corruption of the government. I hope everything I said comes out in court. I told him he was a nothing but a revenue agent & that he wouldn't be able to b.s. me like he could with most of the people out of uniform he deals with. He called our situation "unfortunate".

Lisa was not charged with anything and was released; she drove the car home by herself, but not before being immediately pulled over again by Houston Police with no probable cause. "I asked him, shouted, in fact "why are you pulling me over?" The cop wouldn't tell me why he pulled me over, but the Sergeant did drive up & tell that cop to let me go. We are talking about an area that is not even 1 square mile that I was pulled over in in addition to the stop where Matt got arrested."

Matt was held in custody for 18 hours before being released. After being released from jail, Matt said "it was an ego of a cop being damaged because he lost his drug case since I'm prescribed medication... HE MADE UP A CASE. HE LITERALLY MADE UP A CHARGE and I just spent the last 18 hours being treated as a sub human not even being recognized when I asked questions."

Lisa recalls the frustration of not knowing where Matt was for so long after she got home. "He was dropped at an annex & not even booked until 10-12 hours later. We couldn't even find him & he got no phone call alerting us to where he was. That fat cop was *** with him. Probably jealous of the "cute" girlfriend & nice gun. He really wanted to get him some arrests that night."

Lisa pointed out, "it's not illegal in the imaginary "State of Texas" to have your gun in your car, concealed. Oh, but the cops, they just do things however they want to because the costume that they wear, you know, it makes magic things happen. So big fatty added another charge to his list of trumped up charges & boy was he happy. Had he not gained so much weight over those long years of ******* people over, he may have even been able to jump up & down for joy. I really think he would have liked to."

Interestingly, the arresting officer reportedly made comments aludding to the fact that he had been shot before. Asked why they think police would react in such an extreme manner to a legal firearm, Lisa said "Matt has one charge against him, UCW (unlawful carry of a weapon) with a maximum jail time of 1 year. I think the cop thinks that if you're not wearing a uniform you shouldn't get to own a gun. I think he's just a petty control freak. I think he's been shot--he alluded to that at one point--& is afraid of being shot again (in the severely out of shape condition his body is in, he probably wouldn't survive an abdominal wound such as a gun shot) so he thinks all guns should be confiscated. He's a cop. Of course he wants to control what other people can & can't do. Why do you think he went for that job in the first place?"

Matt added "The definition of tyranny is authority figures being able to do what they please. This cop made up a charge, he found my gun while SEARCHING my car, and decided that since he wasn't getting his big drug case that he had to get something. The worst part, the part that brought me to tears today, is that I used to have that mindset. I actually wanted to be one of these people when I was young. Thank God I realized what I was getting into before I joined the army or the police force - before i put on one of these costumes and had my mindset finalized for good. So now I'm charged with "Unlawful carrying of a firearm" despite having QUOTED the statute that specifically protects that right to the cops at least 4 times."

Gulf Poisoning: Saving Your Life with Zeolite on the Cheap

The toxic poisoning of the people and environs of the Gulf Coast is the crime of the ages. These are a few ideas to help you survive this attack.

Natural Zeolite is a mineral that contains large internal surface area (similar to charcoal) and a negative charge that attracts and traps polarized molecules. Simply put, Zeolites can pull toxins out of the air, water, plants, soil, animals and you.

Saving Plants & Crops

Place a ¼ cup around the base of plants and a few tablespoons full to each gallon of water in your watering can. Toxins like Benzene will become trapped in the zeolite’s internal structure. It reduces the need for continuous watering as wells as time releases nutrients. NASA has pioneered the use of zeolites and plant food to create zeoponics.
Emergency Water Purification
Stir in 2 tablespoons to remove toxins in the water. Note: this will not kill pathogens or bacteria but works well on many toxins and heavy metals. Mix it well and allow the heavy particles to settle out- 30 minutes is plenty of time.

Use the baked zeolite for internal contact and water purification. Here’s how to bake out zeolite. In a shallow baking dist place 2-3 pounds in a preheated oven set at 400 Degrees F. Bake for 45 minutes cracking the oven door to release moisture after 30 minutes. This releases moisture is trapped in the internal crystal structure. This release of moisture is where zeolite gets its name “Boiling Rock”.

I’ve smelled petroleum fumes and smoke before several of these storms. I am up to 4 capsules per day-I make my own. After a capsule and a shower my headache magically goes away.

If Cap and Trade or any new name they attached to this 'junk' legislation and life altering bill does not pass, understand, it really doesn't matter except it would be cheaper for taxpayers in the end to pass this bill. What??? You Ask? Well, understand, Obama is having to look like a fool spending TARP and Stimulus money to back-door the bio-fuel, algae, urea agenda. He would look better if he did not have to spend this money but rather force Cap and Trade to generate tax revenue. Either way, taxpayers and just violated and scammed in the end.

Anadarko currently has $3.7 billion in cash and an unused credit capacity of $ 1.3 billion. Additionally, it has assets that are not producing cash in the onshore U.S. and offshore Africa with an estimated value of $14 billion.If the price tag is larger than that, Anadarko would have to issue equity and sell a large percentage of its international and U.S. Gulf of Mexico nonproducing discoveries. But even if it had to pay $12.5 billion, the company will be able to bear the financial burden, Featherston said.
Investors have been bracing for a worse outcome than what analysts have imagined. Anadarko's shares have tumbled 40% since April 20, the day the rig exploded. The decline sharpened last week--Anadarko was down 19% on Wednesday alone--in a move that Barclays Capital analysts said was "disproportionate" to the highest amount of money Anadarko could be liable for. The stock was trading Wednesday afternoon at $42.70, down 4.5% from the previous session. BP has said it won't be limited by the $75 million cap on oil spill economic damages established under the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 and that it won't seek reimbursement from a federal trust fund. But Anadarko has refrained from openly joining BP in that stance: Spokesman John Christiansen said in an emailed statement that the company will do what is "right" and that questions regarding itsliabilitywillbe answered "at the appropriate time."

Lets go back to the Gulf of Mexico. MMS is responsible for the offshore drilling leases in ALL Federal waters. Under that 2009 contract to SAIC to study the loop current, it seems knowledge is only good to 3000'. Beyond 3000' there are highly significant larger stresses put on drilling platforms, anchoring systems and risers. Below 10,000' the pipe must be flexible because of variations in the strength and direction of the currents and the pipes are quite likely to break. Because engineers topside cannot see or predict currents but they often feel them, they must shut down the rigs until conditions become safer. Technology yet has not reached the depths and associated currents to measure the whole risk. Currently, all conditions are measured by SAIC through satellite remote sensing but only to 3000'.

Who cares about the Gulf Coast residents? It has nothing to do with where you live, right? Why should they matter? What possibly could you do about them?

These Gulf Coast residents have awakened from a terrible slumber. All their instinctive survival instincts are telling them to flee. But they cannot. Those who evacuate now will have a greater chance at survival.

How many of you have an empty house or a cabin you do not use? How many of you have a camper you do not use, a piece of land where a camper could be placed? How many of you have a spare bedroom or a garage you could empty? How many of you could talk to your city representatives about housing Gulf Coast evacuees in empty stores, warehouses, even foreclosed homes?

How many of you, if you had a chance to speak to one of the Gulf Coast residents on the telephone right now, would still not care? How many of you could refuse to turn away a fellow Christian or a fellow human being for that matter in their time of need? I can assure you their stories are heart breaking. They want to survive. They are fighting to survive. What if it were you or one of your family members down there, one of the Gulf Coast residents?

Abstract:
Until 200 years ago, methanol was an extremely rare component of the human diet and is still rarely consumed in contemporary hunter and gatherer cultures. With the invention of canning in the 1800s, canned and bottled fruits and vegetables, whose methanol content greatly exceeds that of their fresh counterparts, became far more prevalent. The recent dietary introduction of aspartame, an artificial sweetener 11% methanol by weight, has also greatly increased methanol consumption. Moreover, methanol is a major component of cigarette smoke, known to be a causative agent of many diseases of civilization (DOC). Conversion to formaldehyde in organs other than the liver is the principal means by which methanol may cause disease. The known sites of class I alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH I), the only human enzyme capable of metabolizing methanol to formaldehyde, correspond to the sites of origin for many DOC. Variability in sensitivity to exogenous methanol consumption may be accounted for in part by the presence of aldehyde dehydrogenase sufficient to reduce the toxic effect of formaldehyde production in tissue through its conversion to the much less toxic formic acid. The consumption or endogenous production of small amounts of ethanol, which acts as a competitive inhibitor of methanol’s conversion to formaldehyde by ADH I, may afford some individuals protection from DOC.
Introduction:
The quest for a small molecule as an etiological cause of the diseases of civilization has always ignored one of its smallest and most stealthy agents: methanol---a molecule capable of effortless perivascular access. A rare component of unprocessed food, methanol has increased incrementally in the human diet since the advent of commercialized canning in the 1800s and most recently due to the popularity of products sweetened with aspartame. Although the extreme sensitivity of humans to methanol is well established, its conversion to formaldehyde in situ within the vessels of the brain and elsewhere is undetectable, making methanol- placed formaldehyde a paradigm of toxicity that is as compelling in theory as it is difficult in practice to study.
The methanol toxicity literature of the last forty years has been overwhelmingly in favor of a benign role for environmental dosages of methanol. Drawing on scant evidence from arguably inadequate animal models, this research denies any significant link to formaldehyde, pointing instead to a considerably less toxic and considerably more detectable secondary metabolite---formate. Not insignificantly, much of the funding for such studies comes from sources with a vested interest in maintaining public confidence in the dietary safety of methanol. The fact remains, however, that environmental methanol in humans allows formaldehyde greater access to regions of the body prone to disease, exposing vulnerable protein and DNA to methylation and other modifications capable of inducing carcinogenicity, mutagenicity, teratogenicity, and direct macrophage phagocytosis. Given its many harmful effects, the potentially critical role of dietary methanol in the increasing incidence of diseases of civilization needs to be reexamined.
The Hypothesis:
Formaldehyde produced from dietary and environmental methanol metabolized in situ at the non-hepatic sites of class I alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH I) may play a role in many diseases of civilization (DOC). Ethanol may in turn act as a competitive inhibitor of methanol’s conversion to formaldehyde by ADH I, as reflected in the U-shaped curve of alcohol consumption.
Discussion:
July 24, 1981, should be a significant date for scientists investigating worldwide epidemics of Alzheimer's disease (AD),[#540],[#533] multiple sclerosis (MS),[#77],[#214] atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ACD),[#532] lupus,[#536] skin[#95] and breast cancer,[#250],[#193] autism,[#525] and other diseases of civilization (DOC). On this date the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the use of aspartame,[#472] a new artificial sweetener.[#473] As aspartame eventually became a major source of methanol in the civilized human diet,[#1] the incidence of DOC gradually began to rise. Rarely found in nature and an insignificant component of the diets of Pleistocene man and present-day foragers, methanol has been increasing incrementally in the diet of civilized humanity since 1806 when Nicolas Appert commercialized canning, a process that traps methanol derived from the heating and storage of plant materials containing pectin.[#1] In addition to aspartame, and canned vegetables, fruits, and their juices,[#28],[#29] a major source of the methanol entering the modern civilized human body is cigarette smoke,[#62] causatively linked to atherosclerosis, multiple sclerosis,[#68] lupus,[#73] Alzheimer's disease,[#535] rheumatoid arthritis,[#332] and other DOC.[#345]
A poison to which humans are particularly sensitive,[#3] methanol was responsible for the loss of hundreds of lives at the beginning of the twentieth century[#17] when extensive animal testing determined it was safer than ethanol, allowing its first use in foods and drugs.[#165] Because the toxicity of methanol in the human system cannot be properly tested in animals, the results of this research were specious. Searching for the cause of the metabolic anomaly that makes the human relationship to methanol distinct from all laboratory animal models, including primates,[#116] has always been muddied by industrial agendas[#39] with a vested interest in proving that the formaldehyde produced from methanol in the human body does no harm.[#40],[#121]
The prevalence of compromised literature and the lack of an applicable animal model may explain why methanol, which fits many of the criteria of availability and stealth that one would expect of a usual suspect, has not yet caught the attention of scientists searching for the elusive etiologic agent of DOC. The single article that posits methanol as the possible direct cause of multiple sclerosis[#8] is never cited in the MS literature. A recent series of comprehensive in-vitro studies has also convincingly linked Alzheimer's disease to very low
concentrations of formaldehyde. This research mentions methanol as a possible in- vivo source,[#234],[#235] but significantly, it neglects to stress the fact that there is no simpler way for formaldehyde to get past the blood brain barrier than in the form of this smallest of alcohols.[#367] Methanol is itself harmless but is a Trojan horse for formaldehyde, a chemical that can pose a severe risk to humans,[#7] who appear to be the only mammal exclusively endowed with a hepatic catalase enzyme incapable of removing dietary methanol before it can enter the general circulation.[#52]
Once methanol runs the gauntlet of first-pass metabolism, its detoxification is no longer exclusive to the liver. Formaldehyde, the first metabolite of methanol, can then be produced within the arteries and veins,[#220] heart,[#503] brain,[#218] lungs,[#221] breast,[#358] bone,[#503] and skin.[#221] These major organs harbor extra hepatic sites of the only remaining human enzyme capable of metabolizing methanol, class I alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH I).[#112] Methanol transports its potential to become formaldehyde past normal biological barriers in the brain and elsewhere that environmental formaldehyde itself cannot usually penetrate.[#122] That formaldehyde produced in these organs from methanol has not been detected directly in humans should not be surprising since formaldehyde vanishes within minutes, binding to macromolecules[#114] even when a solution of it is injected directly into tissue[#122] or spiked into cell-free human serum.[#236] Although methylation caused by this toxic process could be functionally destructive to the macromolecule so modified, the addition of methyl groups to large molecules renders the modification and its source invisible to any clinical or histological testing procedure.[#122],[#236]
However, in a study by Trocho et al., a portion of the C14 labeled methanol moiety of aspartame was shown to bind to such macromolecules via formaldehyde and not pass directly into the one-carbon cycle via formate as predicted by the generally accepted model of methanol toxicity,[#40] a model developed from studying the severe methanol poisoning of monkeys, not the chronic environmental exposure of humans. Formate derived from methanol metabolism is never measurable in human blood when small environmentally reflective doses of methanol are administered.[#42] During acute methanol poisoning, where the methanol concentration of the portal vein far exceeds that of ethanol, liver ADH I would be saturated with methanol. The liver’s ample supply of aldehyde dehydrogenase would assure production of formic acid, which is metabolized very
slowly, causing leakage of formate into the general circulation. Formate is not, however, a significant poison to humans and has, in fact, been used therapeutically and as a food additive.[#365] It certainly would be more convenient to have a stable, measurable entity such as formate to predict the danger of exposure to methanol, but an iron-clad case for the toxicological significance of this much less toxic, secondary metabolite has not yet been made.[#55] Moreover, the results of Trocho's elegant study should give one pause before accepting the widely held premise that formate and not formaldehyde is the toxic component of methanol poisoning.
Laboratories that publish the most cited works are often financially supported by industries with much to lose were the safety of methanol disproved. This research must be carefully reconsidered before we can dismiss the potential threat posed by formaldehyde strategically placed by dietary methanol. Formaldehyde produced within the cell immediately reacts with water to produce formal hydrate,[#27] a strong acid[#114] with twice the number of available hydrogen ions as the next methanol metabolite, formic acid. Formal hydrate produced from methanol by the ADH I sites found in the intima, media, and adventitia lining of the circulatory system of the heart and brain[#220] would be expected to diffuse into the localized tissue, quickly methylating basic molecules such as myelin basic protein (MS)[#224]and tau protein (Alzheimer’s).[#234] Such changes have been shown in these disease states. Formaldehyde, also known to uncouple oxidative phosphorylation and inhibit phosphorylation within cells,[#113] could contribute to these changes reported in MS[#224] and Alzheimer's.[#506] The immune system reacts swiftly to methylation of protein by formaldehyde---a phenomenon put to good use by the vaccine industry for the last hundred years.[#26] Macrophages have activation sites specifically for formaldehyde modified protein[#23] and are well known to have a ravenous appetite for LDLs reacted with small aldehydes.[#507] This induces the esterification of phagocytized LDL cholesterol and the subsequent transformation of the macrophages to foam cells,[#508] similar to the sequence of events leading to atheroma production adjacent to the intima layer of the human aorta, rich in ADH I.[#220] The potential for antibody production against methylated self-protein phagocytized by macrophages has never been investigated.
Ethanol in low concentrations acts as a powerful competitive inhibitor[#439] with a 16:1 preference for ethanol to acetaldehyde over the conversion of methanol to formaldehyde by ADH I.[#389] For this reason, ethanol is used, without FDA approval, as the preferred antidote for accidental methanol poisoning in emergency
rooms throughout the world.[#253] Very low levels of ethanol in the bloodstream would substantively prevent all formaldehyde production from dietary methanol anywhere in the body. Protection from formaldehyde production may account for the yet unexplained dose region of apparent improvement in the U-shaped curve of alcohol consumption. Epidemiologic studies show moderate consumption of alcohol is associated with a reduced risk of myocardial infarction,[#485] dementia,[#534] lupus,[#73] and other DOC. Low doses of ethanol appear to provide a preventative measure against the causes of DOC.[#279] Recent studies of individuals who consumed at least one alcoholic drink per day show subjects had an additional 86 percent reduction in risk of myocardial infarction if they were genetically endowed with a genotype of ADH I that was 2.5 times slower to metabolize ethanol than the control. These findings were "consistent with the hypothesis that a slower rate of clearance of alcohol enhances the beneficial effect of moderate alcohol consumption on the risk of cardiovascular disease."[#483]
A compelling explanation of the dose region of adverse effects of the U- shaped curve with high ethanol consumption, which shows increased risk of these same diseases, could be the mechanism by which humans habituate to high consumption of ethanol. The induction of the P450 hepatic microsomal ethanol- oxidizing system[#175] results in a considerably higher clearance rate of ethanol from the bloodstream for an extended period of time, thus accounting for more consumption leading to statistically less time of protection. Small amounts of supplemental alcohol not sufficient to induce P450 might be expected to prolong the residence time and avoid gaps in the protection afforded by ethanol in preventing methanol placed formaldehyde. It appears that the average person, whether or not an imbiber, may typically have endogenous ethanol in the blood[#174] produced by gut fermentation.[#363] This ethanol must pass through the liver via the hepatic portal vein coincidently with dietary methanol absorbed from the gut contents. The liver has the highest concentration of ADH I in the body. Even traces of ethanol in the blood, however, would seem to indicate the absence of available sites remaining for the oxidation of the much less competitive methanol, allowing most dietary methanol to pass freely into the general circulation.
What follows is a biochemical game of musical chairs as methanol travels round and round the circulation waiting for the ethanol levels to reach zero and the music to stop. The closest ADH I free to service the methanol will convert it to
formaldehyde. If this happens in the liver, where there are ample supplies of aldehyde dehydrogenase, metabolism to carbon dioxide will proceed safely. In mammary epithelium, however, where human class I alcohol dehydrogenase is highly expressed[#358] but active aldehyde dehydrogenase[#216] is scarce, methanol placed formaldehyde could become a problem. Formaldehyde is a class I carcinogen[#11] and mutagen[#449] with methanol providing its only easy avenue into this tissue. In the vasculature of the brain[#218] and other ADH I positive organs, the consequences may be similarly troublesome. The obvious way to prevent formaldehyde from damaging this sensitive tissue is to keep the music playing, a solution dependent on our ability to answer the following questions: Just how much ethanol is essential in this seemingly inscrutable U-shaped curve? What measures should we take to combat this chemical Trojan horse, thereby reducing the methanol contamination in the diet of civilization and making it more like the diet of our ancient ancestors? Both research areas present intriguing inquiries, but as a food scientist, I would stress the relative ease and greater benefits of investigating the latter.
Proposed test of the hypothesis:
Under strict medical supervision this hypothesis would best be tested on experimental subjects suffering from relapsing multiple sclerosis. Without here getting into great detail the preferred mode of administration of small amounts of ethanol would be via gaseous administration at sufficient, carefully controlled, atmospheric concentration to maintain a constant 1-2 parts per million ethanol concentrations in the test subjects bloodstream. At such low levels, well below the ambient concentrations of ethanol in the average pub environment, ethanol is quite safe and not detectable in the air via the olfactory system of most people. A water vaporization control would work well and be conducive to a double blind study. Vaporous administration of ethanol is well covered in the literature and is used frequently to induce alcohol intoxication of test animals for toxicity testing purposes.

They were about 100 yards from the Deepwater Horizon when the masiverig’slights suddenly went out, and then the first of a series of massive booms shook the rig. What is unusualaboutAndry’svideoisthemasivebeam ofintense purple-blue light projecting skyward from the exploding Deepwater Horizon rig. As the video clearly shows, the purple-blue beam was very clear, intense and pronounced during the first 30 seconds of tape, and then faded to just a faint trace 3 minutes later at the concluding end of the video.
What could have caused this anomaly? Why did all survivors of the disaster all tell the same story –therig’sELECTRICITYandLIGHTINGfailedfirst, well before the explosion occurred. What massive pulse of energy would have the power to short-
circuit the Deepwater Horizon’ssheath-protected generators and thickly insulated wiring built to withstand hurricanes and heavy winds, waves, and rain before any explosion occurred? How was it that the electricity failed BEFORE the explosion, not vice verse – according to ALL the eyewitness accounts?
Was the purple-bluebeam ofintenselightcapturedonAndry’svideoa high-tech laser weapon designed to cause the pressurized pipe to super-heat, melt, burst and explode? If so, who would deploy such a dastardly device, and for what purpose or reason?
DOES SUCH A WEAPON EVEN EXIST?
Thesimpleanswertothisquestionis,absolutelyYES. Caledan“infraredchemical laser”,theDefenseAdvancedResearchProjectsAgency(DARPA)inconjunctionwith the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) not only has built such a satellite-based weapon, they deployed it years ago, both on the ground as well as on orbiting satellites.
According to Wikipedia, MIRACL, or Mid-Infrared Advanced Chemical Laser, is the only known successful directed energy weapon developed by the US Navy. It is a deuterium fluoride laser, a type of chemical laser.
The MIRACL laser first became operational in 1980. It can produce over a megawatt of output for up to 10 minutes, making it the most powerful continuous wave (CW) laser in the US. Its original goal was to be able to track and destroy anti-ship cruise missiles, but in later years it was used to test phenomenologies associated with national anti-ballistic and anti-satellite laser weapons.
The beam size in the resonator is about 21 cm (8.3 in) high and 3 cm (1.2 in) wide. The beam is then reshaped to a 14 x 14 cm (5.5 in x 5.5 in) square and when directed and energized, then expands to a 5-foot wide beam of purplish-blue energy capable of melting even the hardest metal within seconds.
CNN reported the successful test firing of the MIRACL laser back on October 20, 1997. The article explained that the laser was successfully deployed ON THE GROUND and correctly targeted a U.S. Air Force Satellite orbiting the earth. The article declares: “MIRACL produces a beam of light six feet across using millions of watts from burning fuel. An extended beam of light from the laser would be capable of burning up a target.”
“The satellite was illuminated twice for the test. The first firing lasted for less than a second to simulate an accidental illumination. The second firing lasted for about 10 seconds at various power levels.”
That longer illumination was designed to simulate an actual ground-based laser attack on a satellite and the effects on the satellite at various power levels. My dad was a drilling contractor in the oil business and I have waisted a great deal of time around the rig floor.

A couple of things to think about.

That rig had over a hundred gas sniffers located at the water line , power plant, crew quarters throughout the platform. Alarms would sound way before explosive level of gas would be reached. I've confirmed this with my partner who was a mud logger and worked offshore. Mud loggers use a hot wire gas detector and gas chromatography to measure slight changes in gas coming through the drill stem in the drilling fluids(mud) and collect sample cuttings. The mud loggers alarms would have gone off first.

Most blow outs occur when the drill string penetrates an unexpected gas pocket and are using underweighted drilling mud. We know that this wasn't the case here.

I've been around wells drilled by majors. They have safety meetings. The safety meetings have safety meetings. They have procedure books that explain company policies for every situation. When the mud logger found pieces of the BOP (blow out preventer) any rig run by any small independent (onshore) would have weighted up the drilling mud and shut down to change the rubber. Nobody I know would continue operations without a working BOP.

BOP's drills are done at least 2 times a day to make sure the closure system is working as standard procedure.

BP (in Houston or New Orleans) has a control room where their top engineers , geologist and trouble shooters watch every sample taken from the cuttings , the gases coming out of the well, live stream video and telemetry from systems on the rig. BP has a video of all of this information at it's headquarters . It didn't blow up in the rig.

It would be hard to make a case that this was an accident.

I know you know most of this , but don't let anybody tell you this was accidental.

I believe drinking water is going to be the big killer.

Car salesmen use the same parlor tricks to confuse you and manipulate the outcome of the sale in his favor. I’m sure you’ve bought products from people that made you mad.

The CIA trained Barry Obama does the same trick to you. He makes a statement or the White House issues a press release that trumpets some revelation designed specifically to make you mad. This is one of the oldest forms of phyops used by armies of the world and honed by intelligent agencies.

Over time and with the assistance of the news media Obama has raised this to an

Back in the 1980’s I was in the oil business in Dallas Texas. I developed a friendship with a petroleum engineer by the name of Jim Cash. Jim had grown up in Dallas and lived abroad for a number of years. I believe his dad was in the rendering business in South Dallas.

Jim helped me and mentored me in the ways of Dallas Oil and we exchanged several deals. One of which I bought a lease for salvage and perforated where he recommended. The gas well made its money back in just a few weeks. He was very business like and professional except for one thing.
He would get drunk after a few sips of his martini. Then things would get wild. He was guilt ridden and would start crying, even in public places. I never saw him drink more than two or three.
The first time this happened we were in a restaurant bar in Addison (most of Dallas is dry- can’t buy liquor) and he blurted out. “He had such a beautiful family” “He treated me like a good friend, and then they told me to kill him” “ Hell I lived them for almost a month and then I killed him” His beautiful family didn’t deserve it”
Who did you kill, Jim?

Jim never bragged about being with the government. It always seemed to be a burden he carried. From time to time, we would meet at his townhouse in Addison reviewing prospects and oil deals. On two occasions men in suits and sunglasses would come to the door, Jim would excuse himself talk to them for ten minutes and come back. Once he joked that he had brought some money into the country and they showed every time he did.

Shortly after we made the gas well Jim and I had a disagreement and I never heard from him again. I believed he was dying and I’ve never been able to find out what happened to Jim or his wife, Marilyn.

I believe he told me the truth and couldn’t live with the fact that he made a friend, and then killed him. How many “spooks” are dying inside that did the dirty work of the Banksters would talk? Would posting this story help the cause? I’ve never made it to South America but now I understand how the “Ugly American” got his name.

Maybe we are trying to make things much too hard, just like the lumberjack felling a tree without the knowledge that the chainsaw has an engine.

I believe we are here at this point and time and place for a reason. We are part of the creators plan. Some of us don’t know our mission yet. We must wade through the roadblocks and clutter to hear the marching orders.
Our job in the mean time is to learn the truth, improve our stills and build. Our job is to make the right decisions based on the knowledge we’ve acquired and our moral compass. Fear and unhappiness are a direct result of making the wrong choices and not being prepared for our special mission.

Every transaction you conduct, conversation you have, and persons you befriend could be an important step in the survival of you, your family, friends and the nation. We’ve been looking for “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and waiting for leaders to lead us out of this devils web.
God gave us all the ability to lead when we have the common sense to follow Him. We need to follow the voice that tells us to make a stand for right.
I don’t know what lies ahead and really don’t know how I will react. I have faith that things work out the way the Creator intends. It’s my intent is to use the tools he gave me to bring as many family, friends and countrymen along on the trip.

OSLO (Reuters) - Investments of $750 billion could create a "Green New Deal" to revive the world economy and protect the environment, perhaps aided by a tax on oil, the head of the U.N. environment agency said on Thursday.

Achim Steiner said spending should focus on five environmental sectors including improved energy efficiency for buildings and solar or wind power to create jobs, curb poverty and fight climate change.

"The opportunity must not be lost," Steiner, head of the U.N. Environment Program (UNEP), told Reuters of a UNEP study that will be put to world leaders meeting in London on April 2 to work out how to spur the ailing economy.

The UNEP report said investments of one percent of global gross domestic product, or about $750 billion, could bankroll a "Global Green New Deal" inspired by the "New Deal" of U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt that helped end the depression of the 1930s.

Investments should be split between more energy efficient buildings, renewable energies, better transport, improved agriculture and measures to safeguard nature -- such as fresh water, forests or coral reefs, it said.

Thursday's study adds details of spending after UNEP called for a Green New Deal late last year.

Steiner also said that the world urgently needed funds to jump start a U.N. deal to fight global warming, due to be agreed in Copenhagen in December to succeed the U.N.'s Kyoto Protocol beyond 2012.

He floated the possibility of taxing oil in rich nations of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) to help a new pact become the cornerstone of a greener economy.

"If, for argument's sake, you were to put a five-year levy in OECD countries of $5 a barrel, you would generate $100 billion per annum. It translates into roughly 3 cents per liter," he said.

"It would be almost, if not totally, unnoticed by the consumer," he said, especially since oil prices have fallen from more than $140 a barrel at mid-2008 peaks to about $40.

A barrel of oil contains 158 liters and OECD consumption is about 20 billion barrels a year, he said. "This is just one example, there may be many others," of funding, he said.

"I am concerned about the prospect of a meaningful deal in Copenhagen if there is not a significant financial package on the table," he said. Cash would encourage poor nations to step up actions to curb rising greenhouse gas emissions.

"The argument that we cannot afford this does not, on any serious analysis, hold much water -- especially given the cost to the global economy of failure to act on climate change," he said.

Carbon markets, which could also be a source of funds to help fight climate change, were unlikely to contribute enough cash in early years of a new climate deal, he said.

Steiner said there were promising signs that economic stimulus packages by many nations, ranging from the United States to China, were being tailored to help a shift toward greener growth and away from dependence on fossil fuels.

The U.N. Climate Panel says that greenhouse gases from burning fossil fuels are a prime cause of warming that will cause more heatwaves, droughts, rising sea levels and more powerful storms.

The company that released contaminated flu virus material from a plant in Austria confirmed Friday that the experimental product contained live H5N1 avian flu viruses.

The contamination incident, which is being investigated by the four European countries, came to light when the subcontractor in the Czech Republic inoculated ferrets with the product and they died. Ferrets shouldn’t die from exposure to human H3N2 flu viruses.

And an official of the World Health Organization’s European operation said the body is closely monitoring the investigation into the events that took place at Baxter International’s research facility in Orth-Donau, Austria.

“At this juncture we are confident in saying that public health and occupational risk is minimal at present,” medical officer Roberta Andraghetti said from Copenhagen, Denmark.

“But what remains unanswered are the circumstances surrounding the incident in the Baxter facility in Orth-Donau.”

The contaminated product, a mix of H3N2 seasonal flu viruses and unlabelled H5N1 viruses, was supplied to an Austrian research company. The Austrian firm, Avir Green Hills Biotechnology, then sent portions of it to sub-contractors in the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Germany.

The contamination incident, which is being investigated by the four European countries, came to light when the subcontractor in the Czech Republic inoculated ferrets with the product and they died. Ferrets shouldn’t die from exposure to human H3N2 flu viruses.

Public health authorities concerned about what has been described as a “serious error” on Baxter’s part have assumed the death of the ferrets meant the H5N1 virus in the product was live. But the company, Baxter International Inc., has been parsimonious about the amount of information it has released about the event.

On Friday, the company’s director of global bioscience communications confirmed what scientists have suspected.

“It was live,” Christopher Bona said in an email.

The contaminated product, which Baxter calls “experimental virus material,” was made at the Orth-Donau research facility. Baxter makes its flu vaccine — including a human H5N1 vaccine for which a licence is expected shortly — at a facility in the Czech Republic.

People familiar with biosecurity rules are dismayed by evidence that human H3N2 and avian H5N1 viruses somehow co-mingled in the Orth-Donau facility. That is a dangerous practice that should not be allowed to happen, a number of experts insisted.

Accidental release of a mixture of live H5N1 and H3N2 viruses could have resulted in dire consequences.

While H5N1 doesn’t easily infect people, H3N2 viruses do. If someone exposed to a mixture of the two had been simultaneously infected with both strains, he or she could have served as an incubator for a hybrid virus able to transmit easily to and among people.

That mixing process, called reassortment, is one of two ways pandemic viruses are created.

There is no suggestion that happened because of this accident, however.

“We have no evidence of any reassortment, that any reassortment may have occurred,” said Andraghetti.

“And we have no evidence of any increased transmissibility of the viruses that were involved in the experiment with the ferrets in the Czech Republic.”

Baxter hasn’t shed much light — at least not publicly — on how the accident happened. Earlier this week Bona called the mistake the result of a combination of “just the process itself, (and) technical and human error in this procedure.”

He said he couldn’t reveal more information because it would give away proprietary information about Baxter’s production process.

Andraghetti said Friday the four investigating governments are co-operating closely with the WHO and the European Centre for Disease Control in Stockholm, Sweden.

“We are in very close contact with Austrian authorities to understand what the circumstances of the incident in their laboratory were,” she said.

“And the reason for us wishing to know what has happened is to prevent similar events in the future and to share lessons that can be learned from this event with others to prevent similar events. … This is very important.”

Economic Depression Was a INSIDE JOB

Events are happening quickly in these early months of 2009 and,
quite frankly, most of the news is not good. The economic crisis
appears to be getting worse by the day. The federal government
announced in early February that some 598,000 jobs disappeared in
January, the biggest drop in employment since the severe recession
of 1974. When those 600,000 are added to the lost jobs in the last
few months of 2008, the total comes to over 3.5 million. Right now
the national unemployment rate stands at over 7 percent, but many
experts are saying the figure will soon be in the double digits.
One economist at California State University said this: "We're
talking years -- not months -- before we see a decent recovery in
the jobs market. It is going to get worse before it gets better."

With Barack Hussein Obama presiding over our nation's economy,
that's probably the understatement of the year. He ran for
president by painting himself as a "moderate" and a "centrist" who
was going to bring Americans together. But now that he's in office,
he's revealing himself to be what conservatives said he was all
along - a radical socialist who thinks the government should
control the economy. Socialism won't rebuild the economy; it will
destroy it. The only way he's going to bring Americans together is
in the unemployment lines.

To be fair, we have to admit that Obama didn't create this mess; he
inherited it. But he's going to make it far worse than it already
is, while using the crisis as an excuse to pad the bank accounts of
his supporters and radical leftist groups. He tried to bully GOP
politicians into voting for the trillion dollar Pelosi-Reid
stimulus package by using scare tactics. According to President
Obama, it's absolutely critical that this bill goes through: "This
recession might linger for years. Our economy will lose 5 million
more jobs. Unemployment will approach double digits. Our nation
will sink deeper into a crisis that, at some point, we may not be
able to reverse," is how he put it in an op-ed piece for the
Washington Post.

In actuality, passing the so called stimulus bill is just about the
worst thing the government could do right now. We're in this
economic crisis because of rampant, out of control debt. President
Bush and the last Congress already threw nearly a trillion dollars
at it, and now Obama says we need to pour another trillion down the
rat hole. The government shouldn't be spending more money; it
should be making massive budget cuts. Niall Ferguson, a Harvard
economist, calls our current crisis the Great Repression. He echoed
Ron Paul the other day when he wrote about Obama's plan to borrow
our way out of bankruptcy: "The delusion that a crisis of excess
debt can be solved by creating more debt is at the heart of the
Great Repression."

Obama isn't just calling for us to spend a trillion more dollars
that we don't have. He and the liberal Democrats in Congress have
also packed the stimulus bill with billions of dollars worth of
goodies for government agencies and far left wing groups. That's
the dirty little secret the mainstream media isn't telling us about
the Pelosi-Reid bill. Some of the provisions include $600 million
for brand new "environmentally friendly" cars for government
workers, $50 million for the National Endowment for the Arts, $400
million for NASA to do "climate change research" to generate even
more global warming hysteria, and a total of $54 billion for
government agencies that Congress's own accounting office has
already declared to be ineffective or poorly run.

If that's not bad enough, according to the National Taxpayer's
Union, the bill also includes over $4 billion for the Association
of Community Organizations for Reform Now, better known as ACORN.
This is Obama's way of thanking this radical socialist group of
"community organizers" for getting out the vote for him in the
November election. His campaign gave them nearly a million dollars
for voter registration efforts, and it sure paid off. They
certainly registered a lot of new voters for the Democrats, but
many of them were people registering over and over, or completely
phony registrations. ACORN is facing voter fraud investigations in
15 states for thousands of instances of voter fraud. In Nevada,
ACORN workers even turned in voter registration paperwork in the
name of every single member of the Dallas Cowboys! Their proposed
reward for all this massive voter fraud is $4 billion from their
champion in the White House.

Yes, now that Obama is sitting in the Oval Office, the mask is
finally coming off. He's no moderate, let alone a centrist. He's
not just the most radical left wing president in the history of the
United States. He's a committed, hard core socialist, but this
shouldn't be a surprise to any of us. After all, this is the same
man who attended Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ for
nearly twenty years. For almost two decades he sat faithfully in
the pews as Jeremiah Wright called for God to damn America, said
the government created AIDS to wipe out black people, and referred
to the greatest nation on earth as "the United States of KKK-A."

Out of the hundreds of black churches on the South Side of Chicago,
Obama chose to join Trinity. In his book he said it was because of
his admiration for Jeremiah Wright, a man who, when he wasn't
lashing out against white America, or naming his fellow hate monger
Louis Farrakhan Man of the Year, was praising the Sandinistas for
their Communist overthrow of Nicaragua's elected government back in
the 1980's. Obama not only attended Trinity for all those years, he
also named one of his books after an anti-American sermon by
Wright, and spent much of his other book talking about what a
powerful influence Wright had had on him.

No, we should not be surprised to finally be seeing the real Obama
after two years of propaganda, hype, and media spin. Anyone who
attended Jeremiah Wright's church for twenty years and wrote of his
deep admiration for him obviously shared Wright's hatred of
America, and his radical socialist agenda. Obama didn't go to a
church like that and contribute tens of thousands of dollars
because he liked the choir. He did it because he believes what
Wright believes. Now that he's President of the United States, he's
going to go all out to enact his and Wright's anti-American
socialist agenda. Anyone who thinks otherwise is just kidding
himself.

Every presidential election is important, but Obama's victory was a
decisive turning point in this nation's history. America has come
to a fork in the road, and the country has to make a choice. Do we
allow Obama to remake America into his left wing, socialist vision,
or do we fight with everything we've got, at every opportunity we
have, to preserve our traditional American freedoms and way of
life? Make no mistake - it's the hard working, decent people who
will pay the price if Obama gets his way. Not only will we be
paying for massive new federal programs, it will also be red states
like Texas that liberals haven't bankrupted that will be paying for
the bailouts of the bankrupt blue states like California.

It seems that the interests of Texas and the country at large are
rapidly diverging. For all their flaws, our state leaders have
more-or-less governed as fiscal conservatives while the federal
government continues to run the printing press. Texas has a real
economy based on energy, technology and manufacturing; our people
work hard for honest money. The federal government continues to
bailout the paper-pushers on Wall Street and the banks that produce
nothing but steal the wealth of everybody else. One has to wonder
if the events of our present time mirror those of the 1830's, when
another Presidential tyrant with a funny name, Santa Anna, learned
the hard way what happens when you raise taxes, ruin the currency
and oppress the people of this state.

It's a difficult position for any patriot to be in when he's faced
with loving his country, but despising the corruptness of his
government. But that's where we're at today, and it's only going to
get worse under Obama. How are we supposed to support a regime that
has declared war on everything we believe in? How can we sit in
silence while the America we once knew and loved is trampled
underfoot? What kind of country will our children and grandchildren
grow up in if Obama has his way? The prospect is unthinkable. We
simply can't let that happen. We are in for the fight of our lives
in the next few years. With hard work and by sticking together, we
can win this fight. God help us if we lose it.

Brazil, a leader in the use of biofuels such as ethanol and in the face of falling oil prices, still plans to spend huge sums to expand its offshore oil resources. Drilling rigs are infrastructure too.

With oil prices scraping the bottom of the barrel, pun intended, there wouldn't appear to be much incentive to pursue the development of new oil resources. And in tough economic times worldwide, the necessary investment required would appear to be prohibitive.

As the U.S. seeks to get its economy going by building roads, bridges and bicycle paths, Brazil has decided to create jobs and move toward energy independence by investing in its energy infrastructure and the liquid gold that lies just off its pristine beaches.

Brazil's state-owned energy giant, Petrobras, announced on Friday that it plans to spend $174.4 billion on developing its huge recent offshore oil finds through 2013. A $28.6 billion spending plan for this year will be financed in part on loans from Brazil's state development bank.

"This is not a rescue," Petrobras CEO Jose Sergio Gabrielli told reporters in Rio de Janeiro. "This is very different than what is happening in other countries. This is not a bailout."

No indeed. It's an investment that fosters energy independence, keeps Brazil's energy dollars at home and creates jobs.

"The volumes of investments will have an important macroeconomic impact in Brazil," said Gabrielli.

Such investments could have a similar beneficial impact on the American economy, and the irony is that the oil companies are willing to use their own money here if we let them. Yet, even more restrictions on U.S. domestic production are planned.

Thanks in part to a relentless pursuit of domestic energy resources to complement its ethanol production (an "all of the above" energy plan like that proposed by Republicans during the campaign), the Brazilian economy grew 5.8% in 2008 and is projected to expand 2.9% even in a tough 2009, according to the median estimate of 16 economists surveyed by Bloomberg.

If Brazil had copied our current energy policy, it wouldn't have discovered in November 2007 the Tupi field or in April 2008 the Carioca field in the deep-water Santos Basin off Brazil's southeastern coast.

Tupi is estimated to contain 5 billion to 8 billon barrels of crude, and Carioca may hold up to 33 billion — the third-largest oil field ever discovered and big enough to supply every refinery in the U.S. for six years.

These discoveries and others around the world show that oil has not peaked, and new technologies continue to expand reserves beyond the level of consumption. Other countries recognize the economic importance of domestic energy resources. We are in fact the only industrial country to put our reserves off-limits.

A study by ICF International, commissioned by the American Petroleum Institute, finds that by 2030 the domestic energy resources that Congress has placed off-limits in ANWR, in Rocky Mountain shale and in the Outer Continental Shelf could increase U.S. crude-oil production by 36%, generate more than $1.7 trillion in government revenue and create 160,000 jobs.

Now, that's what we and the Brazilians call a stimulus package.

MOSCOW: In the face of mounting economic troubles, Russia cut off deliveries of natural gas to Ukraine on Thursday after Ukraine rejected the Kremlin's demands for a sharp increase in gas prices.

A similar reduction in supplies to Ukraine in 2006 caused a drop in pressure throughout Europe's integrated natural gas pipeline system and led to shortages in countries as far away as Italy and France.

But with a recessionary drop in demand, ample supplies and assurances from both countries that gas would flow westward without interruption, there were few signs of the near hysteria in Europe that accompanied the 2006 cutoff.

The authorities in Poland and Italy issued soothing statements on Thursday, noting the existence of high reserves and the distant likelihood of an immediate effect on gas supplies.

Even Ukraine, which says it has enough gas in reserve to last through the winter, took Russia's action in stride, underscoring how the political potency of the Kremlin's energy card has plunged along with the price of oil and gas. Its normally fractious political leadership rallied together in the face of the supply cutoff, united in their demand that the Kremlin pay more for the right to transship gas through Ukraine.

Gazprom, the Russian natural gas monopoly, likened its actions to a utility cutting off service to a deadbeat customer. "The message is very simple," Ilya Kochevrin, the executive director of Gazprom's export arm, Gazexport, said in a telephone interview. "If you receive a product, you have to pay for it. If you don't pay, you don't receive it."

But energy experts said that the Kremlin's decision to employ the gambit again in a pricing dispute with Ukraine was an indication as well of Russia's deepening economic woes.

Plagued by the sharp fall in oil prices, Russia has been scrambling to make up the revenue shortfall as prices have slipped below $40 a barrel. Gazprom, too, is heavily in debt and sinking along with the energy market.

"They do need the money," Chris Weafer, the chief equity analyst at UralSib bank in Moscow, said in a telephone interview, speaking of Gazprom. "That is the bottom line."

Under Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, who takes a strong interest in energy matters, Moscow has tried a number of tactics in recent months to raise energy prices. It is cooperating more closely with the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, whose members recently agreed to cut daily production by 4.2 million barrels. It is also trying to organize a parallel group for gas exporting nations.

Talks over price and transit fees unraveled late Wednesday with Gazprom demanding about $50 more per 1,000 cubic meters of gas than Ukraine's president, Viktor Yushchenko, said the country which itself has severe financial problems was willing to pay. Later Thursday, Gazprom's chief executive raised the asking price to $418 per 1,000 cubic meters from $250, saying that Ukraine had missed its chance to accept the lower rate. Currently, European nations pay around $500 per 1,000 cubic meters.

At $418 per 1,000 cubic meters, Gazprom would earn about $14 billion more a year than it received from Ukraine last year. While a considerable sum, the revenue would provide only a respite from Russia's broader financial problems.

The Russian authorities have yet to release a detailed plan of how they would fill the hole in the budget presented by tumbling prices. Taxes on oil and gas finance about 60 percent of the government's annual budget. Russia's finance minister, Aleksei Kudrin, has said the country will run a deficit next year if crude oil prices remain below $70; they are now about half that.

Once large foreign currency reserves are increasingly committed to defending the ruble and are running out; the central bank has spent $162 billion since midsummer and still was forced to devalue the ruble three times last week. Russia's gold and currency reserves stand at $438 billion.

The shutoff at the peak of the heating season carried more than financial overtones; it is the most confrontational move by Russia toward a neighboring country since the August war in Georgia.

In comments broadcast Wednesday evening on Russian state television, Putin said any interference with Russia's gas exports to Europe would carry "serious consequences for the transit country itself." He did not elaborate, but Ukrainian officials did not need to be reminded that Russia issued a series of threats and provocations against Georgia, leading in part to the war last summer.

Underlying the gas dispute are long-running tensions between Russia and Ukraine, a former Soviet republic of 46 million. In 2004, after the street protests known as the Orange Revolution led to the installation of a pro-Western government in Ukraine, talks over gas supply and its transit became strained. This time, however, the political coloring is less clear.

Grigoriy Perepelitsa, director of the Foreign Policy Research Institute, an arm of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, said in an interview that in addition to raising much-needed revenue, Russia was seeking to undermine President Yushchenko by stalling on the gas deal.

Russia is trying to exploit fissures in Ukraine's mercurial internal politics, offering to negotiate with Ukraine's prime minister, Yulia Tymoshenko, who has recently leaned closer to Moscow. Tymoshenko, for example, was slow to criticize the Russian military intervention in Georgia in August.

Also, the role of an opaque gas trading company that is the exclusive intermediary for gas shipments to Ukraine from Russia and Central Asia carries political ramifications for Ukraine. The Swiss-based trader RosUkrEnergo is jointly owned by Gazprom and by a Ukrainian businessman, Dmitry Firtash, who has close ties to the country's president.

Energy analysts, however, said Gazprom's motives seemed clear.

"The financial crisis puts raising cash as everybody's priority," Simon Blakey, European gas researcher with Cambridge Energy Research Associates, said in telephone interview from London.

"On the Russian side, they are eager to raise cash," he said. "And on the Ukrainian side, they have difficulty finding it."

Saudi 2009 Budget: Deficit-Bound

The Saudi Arabian government released its 2009 budget – one of the first glimpses of how key oil exporters may respond to the changed oil price outlook for 2009. At current (sub $40/b) oil, most will run fiscal deficits and some will run large ones. Saudi Arabia’s budget takes such concerns in stride, projecting a budget deficit for the first time since 2004. And despite comments in the press, its not necessarily expansionary - they plan to spend more than they planned to in 2008 but less than they actually did. While Saudi Arabia (and most of its GCC neighbors) maintained conservative budgeted oil price estimates, expenditures have been rising significantly since 2006. Yet, despite increasing spending, Saudi Arabia’s revenues (which are primarily from hydrocarbons) were almost double that of expenditures in 2008. Yet past history warns that spending catches up and the big question is whether the oil price slump will cause a spending slump as was the case in the 90s.

Several oil exporters have had to scale back spending plans already. Nigeria notably reduced its oil price estimate to $42.5/b meaning the preliminary spending plan based on $62/b had to be scaled back. Kuwait has also suggested that it may pare back spending in 2009. Aside from reducing transfers to the underfunded pensions which put its oil price break even point as high as $75/b, it may find it difficult to do so. Russia by contrast is rolling out major spending though it is uncertain if the planned infrastructure projects will continue on course as it turns to supporting its financial sector and the Moscow construction sector.

The oil windfall saved over the past few years may serve GCC and North African oil exporters well. They have been relatively conservative should have funds to support spending plans and avoid economic contraction although some of them may have fewer liquid funds than previously thought. Spending more might not only cushion domestic economies but would also avoid exacerbating the global demand slump.

The Saudi budget is laden with infrastructure spending to maintain high profile projects, avoid job losses. With its large population and concerns about any increase in unemployment, Saudi Arabia was unlikely to scale back spending much. The government may also have to take on a larger share of financing than it previous hoped. But the Saudi 'private sector' was never very large, if one excludes the private wealth of individuals tied to the ruling family and partially privatized SOEs. Past history from the 80s oil slump suggests it is difficult to scale back spending. Furthermore, current planning may be in part based on the assumption oil prices will rebound. So what does the 2009 spending actually look like. Despite a projected decline in revenues as oil revenues fall sharply in 2009, the Saudi government announced plans to maintain spending just below 2008 actual levels, which would imply a deficit of SR 65b – about $18b. If Saudi Arabia sticks to its budget, which is unlikely given history, it actually wouldn’t be expansionary.

Source: Government via Samba, Jadwa In keeping with past practice, the authorities did not reveal their oil price assumption but private sector estimates of the oil price to balance the budget range from $37/b (SABB) to $44/b for Saudi oil/ $48b WTI based on 8.1mbd (Jadwa). Standard Chartered has a similar assumption. 2008 spending required an estimated $45-54/b.

At current oil prices, and likely any oil price below $55/barrel WTI, planned spending would imply a fiscal deficit, the Kingdom’s first since 2002 and first budgeted since 2004, when oil prices surprised on the upside as they have done each year since 2002 at least. Given that Saudi Arabia has rarely stuck to its planned budget, we may need to assume at least a $60/b oil price for a balanced budget (and current account surplus).

Source: IMF, private sector estimates, authors estimates Planned expenditure is SR475bn for 2009, only slightly lower than actual spending in 2008 (SR510b) which in turn was SR100b or 24% higher than planned in 2008 budget. Budget plans to spend SAR 225bn ($60bn) or 55% on development projects.

The budget implies significant spending increases in education (including 1500 new schools) health and social services (86 new hospitals), water, infrastructure and transportation (new roads) – all of these segments will see a planned spending boost of over 16% over that planned in 2008. Defence and security spending will also likely increase though it is not detailed in the budget. Wage hikes announced earlier in 2008 should boost current spending.

Saudi Arabia of course has a very large stock of foreign assets and one that has grown tremendously this year, absorbing most of the record oil revenues. Total reserve and non-reserve foreign assets of Saudi Monetary Agency will exceed $500b at the end of the year (including the foreign assets of the Saudi pension funds). These are primarily in liquid assets though SAMA is known to have some equities. Furthermore, SAMA’s conservative asset allocation means they have held their value this year, unlike the 25-40% losses likely suffered by the more aggressive funds of the smaller GCC countries (for more, watch for a paper with Brad Setser early in the new year).

Source: SAMA, my estimates Furthermore with a now-small (13.5% of GDP or about than $60b) - and almost entirely domestic - debt position, Saudi Arabia need not fear a debt explosion. If necessary the government should be able to borrow from key domestic institutions like the pension funds as it has done in the past. It has consistently paid down its debt during the recent oil boom.

Source: Samba, Jadwa Given that the Saudi economy is already slowing, the government’s largess is important. John Sfakianakis of SABB notes “Although counter fiscal measures in the 1980s and 1990s were evidenced, the budget for 2009 is by far the largest.” - the 38% capital expenditure increase goes against the grain of past oil slump budgets when capex was the first thing cut.

2008 Saudi real GDP growth (4.2% according to government estimates) is likely to have outpaced the 3.7% recorded in 2007, largely because of higher oil output. With the reduction in output from production cuts, growth should also slow. The focus on infrastructure, providing capital etc to offset any private sector withdrawal will help but Saudi growth would slow sharply with even $55-60 average oil price. Standard Chartered suggests 2% real GDP growth in 2009.

It’s been clear for some time that the government would need to step in to offset the withdrawal of foreign private capital. IPOs are a non-starter and despite several high-profile loan syndications, the sort of private capital raisings accomplished in 2007 and early 2008 are delayed for now. Even some high profile projects, like King Abdullah city have reportedly been delayed. And we should expect more of the same. Meanwhile, diversification away from oil has still not gotten very far and the private sectors role may be slipping meaning that government actions may be effective in supporting growth Non-oil private sector growth, which is the key to long-term growth slowed to 4.3% growth in 2008 from 5.7% growth in 2007. High inflation probably affected the private sector most, but the government pump-priming is necessary.

Jadwa points to a possible silver lining - the government investment plans may take advantage of lower project costs and raw material prices making the investment plans more affordable. It also sends an important signal to investors about the underlying health of the economy and the strength of government finances and should lift confidence, bolstering the stock market. – Or so the authorities must hope. Though they may also be hoping that once again their oil price estimate proves conservative given than in the midst of a global recession expenditure risks are on the upside and revenues are on the downside. At least the pools of capital remain large and with inflation in the decline, the government is in a better place to take the fiscal and monetary measures to support the economy. But at current oil prices… it also means that Saudi Arabia will be spending not saving its oil revenues and that SAMA, one of the few global central banks still adding to its funds in Q3 and Q4 of 2008 may join the disaccumulation trend (after adding well over $150 billion in 2008.)

My reaction: Points to be drawn from this article:

1) To suppress calls for democratic reforms, the Saudi royal family will spend whatever it takes to keep people happy.

2) Saudi Monetary Agency's total reserve and non-reserve foreign assets of will exceed $500b at the end of the year.

3) At current oil prices, Saudi Arabia will be selling its large pool of dollars next year to fund its current account deficit.

Conclusion: Saudi Arabia and other oil producing nation are not going to be one the ones funding our $700 billion current account deficit next year. They will also be net sellers of treasuries at a time when the US is running record budget deficits.

Ethanol Bailout? Time To Shuck Corn

The heavily subsidized ethanol industry is the latest to seek a federal bailout. If there is any industry that deserves to go bankrupt, it's this one. Time has come to stop putting food in our gas tanks.

The bailout-seeking domestic auto industry has been criticized as being unproductive and inefficient. It hasn't been helped by mandated fuel economy standards that have done little to reduce our dependence on foreign energy or help the environment. Now the fuel we have been mandated to put in our cars, equally unproductive and inefficient, is also seeking a bailout.

Ethanol never made much sense economically or environmentally. It never would have made it to market without congressional mandates and huge subsidies. Having the first presidential contest in the corm state of Iowa didn't hurt either. With oil prices plummeting, it is even less competitive — if it ever was.

The product has benefited from a tax credit paid to gasoline producers to blend gasoline with ethanol; a federal fuel economy standard that sets a minimum amount of ethanol to be blended; and a 54-cents-a-gallon tariff on cheaper imported ethanol made in places like Brazil. Brazilian ethanol is made from sugar, not corn. But corn is grown in Iowa, and Brazilians can't vote.

Recent legislation mandated increased ethanol use as well as a 51-cent-a-gallon tax credit and more corn subsidies. Over the last two decades the ethanol industry has been kept alive with more than $25 billion in federal handouts. Yet it still can't compete.

Five of Iowa's 32 ethanol plants are in bankruptcy. They are operated by Sioux Falls, S.D.-based ethanol giant VeraSun Energy, which itself filed for Chapter 11 on Oct. 31. Eleven plants in other states have also fallen into bankruptcy. Nationally the ethanol plant failure rate is at 8.8% and could reach 22% in short order.

The Renewable Fuels Association, the industry's lobbying arm, has talked with Team Obama about further handouts such as $1 billion in short-term credit to keep failing plants in operation and $50 billion in loan guarantees to build more. The association wants to increase the 10% ethanol limit in gasoline for conventional cars and trucks and require that any carmaker getting federal funds produce only vehicles that can run on any blend up to 85% ethanol.

Even the environmentalists are getting wise to this game. The Environmental Working Group and five other groups came out against such a bailout last week, saying subsidies "for corn-based ethanol have produced unintended, yet potentially catastrophic, environmental consequences, with little or no return to taxpayers in energy security (or) protection from global warming."

According to a report from the Hoover Institute's Henry Miller and professor Colin Carter of the University of California, Davis, "ethanol yields about 30% less energy per gallon of gasoline, so miles per gallon in internal combustion engines drop significantly." So the per-mile cost is actually higher at the pump. Meanwhile, it raises the food prices at the supermarket you drive to.

Corn ethanol is less energy efficient and costs more. It generates less than two units of energy for every unit of energy used to produce it. It takes 1,700 gallons of water to produce one gallon of ethanol. Each acre of corn requires 130 pounds of nitrogen and 55 pounds of phosphorous.

Increased acreage means increased agricultural runoff, which is creating aquatic "dead zones" in our rivers, bays and coastal areas.

Industries such as poultry and livestock, as well as their customers and workers, suffered when government policies and subsidies drove corn prices to record highs last summer. Demand for corn and the diversion from other crops have sent food prices soaring worldwide.

If we are seriously talking about an economic recovery, we need to remove this albatross from around the neck of businesses, consumers and taxpayers.

Climate Change: Sin City gets hit with almost 4 inches of snow as the white stuff even dusts Malibu, Calif. We don't know what computer model global warmongers are using. A slot machine with three ice cubes, perhaps?

What happens in Vegas, they say, stays in Vegas. But as more evidence of the decade-long cooling trend is shoveled off the Strip, we hope that doesn't apply to the truth about global warming.

On Friday, the Las Vegas Sun reported that eight inches of snow had hit the Las Vegas Valley. The 3.6 inches that had already fallen as of late Wednesday near McCarran Airport added up to the most snow recorded for the area in December since they began keeping records 70 years ago.

The white powder even dusted Malibu as a winter storm hit parts of California.

We commented recently on an Associated Press story claiming that, rather than being "evidence of some kind of cooling trend," such events "actually illustrate how fast the world is warming." But not everybody is convinced.

"If the issues weren't so serious and the ramifications so profound, I would have to laugh at it," said David Deming, a geology professor at the University of Oklahoma.

"The mean global temperature, at least measured by satellite, is the same as it was in the year 1980. In the last couple of years, sea level has stopped rising, hurricane and cyclone activity in the Northern Hemisphere is at a 24-year low and sea ice globally is also the same as it was in 1980."

Speaking of rising sea levels, is Al Gore smarter than a fourth-grader? James O'Brien, emeritus professor at Florida State University who studies climate variability and the oceans, thinks not. "When the Arctic Ocean ice melts, it never raises sea level because floating ice is floating ice, because it's displacing water," he points out.

"When the ice melts, sea level actually goes down. I call it a fourth-grade science experiment: Take a glass, put some ice in it, put water in it, mark level where water is. . . . After the ice melts, the sea level didn't go up in your glass of water. It's called the Archimedes principle."

Global temperatures stopped rising after 1998 and have plummeted in the last two years by more than 0.5 degrees Celsius. The 2007-08 temperature drop was not predicted by global climate models. It was predictable by a decline in sunspot activity since 2000 and by a cyclical ocean-current phenomenon known as the Pacific Decadal Oscillation.

On CNN's "Lou Dobbs Tonight" recently, Jay Lehr, a senior fellow and science director at the Heartland Institute, was asked by the host what he considered the dominant influence on Earth's climate.

"Well, clearly, Lou, it is the sun," Lehr answered, adding that "if we go back in really recorded human history; in the 13th century, we were probably seven degrees Fahrenheit warmer than we are now."

Lehr considers global cooling to be the real threat, part of a natural pattern as we continue coming out of a period known as the Little Ice Age. "If we go back to the Revolutionary War, 300 years ago," he said, "it was very, very cold. We've been warming out of that cold spell from the Revolutionary War period. And now we're back into a cooling cycle."

The Associated Press claims that the 10 warmest years on record have occurred since Bill Clinton's second inaugural. But after it was discovered that NASA's James Hansen, Gore's chief scientific ally, had been fudging the numbers, the agency was forced to correct its data. The 10 warmest years turn out to be, in descending order: 1934, 1998, 1921, 2006, 1931, 1999, 1953, 1990, 1938 and 1939.

If there's a trend there, we don't see it. So is global warming man-made and an imminent danger? As the snow falls in Vegas, don't bet on it.

OIL $34 and falling!

The price of New York oil sank under 34 dollars per barrel on Friday for the first time for more than four and a half years, as weak global demand overshadowed a record OPEC output cut, traders said.
New York's light sweet crude for delivery in January sank as low as 33.44 dollars a barrel, which was the lowest point since April 2, 2004.

The January contract, which was also driven lower in technical trading owing to its expiry on Friday, later stood at 33.61, down 2.61 dollars from the close on Thursday.

New York prices have now plunged by about 77 percent since striking a record high of 147.27 dollars in July on supply concerns in key producer countries.

Meanwhile on Friday, London's Brent North Sea oil for February delivery edged up four cents to 43.40 dollars a barrel, after dipping as low as 43.21.

"The global recession continues to sap demand," said BetOnMarkets analyst David Evans.

"Even after OPEC cut production by more then two million barrels, oil prices have fallen below the 40 dollar per barrel level.

"Prices are likely to stabilise between the 35 and 40 dollar levels."

The Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), which produces about 40 percent of the world's crude, agreed on Wednesday to cut output by 2.2 million barrels a day.

But the move failed to prevent oil diving to multi-year low points as traders also questioned whether all members of the 13-nation OPEC cartel would fully enforce the reduction.

Hypocrisy: With workers losing jobs by the millions and taxpayers forced to rescue banks and carmakers, how does Nancy Pelosi's Congress show it cares? By giving themselves a big pay raise.

What a great time for taxpayers to give senators and congressmen a $2.5 million jump in their already bloated salaries. It's tough to get by on $217,400 a year if you're House Speaker Nancy Pelosi — even if, as the Washington Times reported, you funneled nearly $100,000 from your political action committee to your husband's business over a decade.

Last year, Pelosi supported a bill banning payments from PACs to congressional spouses, but that didn't stop her from doing it. Most members of Congress have to subsist on only $169,300 annually, so the $4,700 raise they're giving themselves next year should help keep them off food stamps.

It's hard to know where to start in expressing outrage. The last thing this Congress deserves is a raise. A new report from Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., found over $1 billion in taxpayer funding wasted on nonsense ranging from searching in vain for Alaskan ice worms to an airplane-shaped, nonworking gas station in Tennessee to nearly $300,000 for specialty potatoes for high-end restaurants.

Then there's the tone-deaf lack of empathy for working Americans lucky even to have a job, let alone get a raise.

Finally, there's the hypocritical insistence that people outside government who actually do productive work, like those running businesses, don't make too much. "We sent a message to Wall Street: The party is over," Pelosi crowed as Congress insisted on restrictions on executive pay in October.

Two years ago a spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., called it "unconscionable that members of Congress would get yet another pay raise while the minimum wage has been stuck at $5.15 an hour for the last 10 years," and so Democrats supported tying congressional pay to a hike in the minimum wage.

So people getting paid too little means Congress shouldn't be paid more, but people not getting paid at all via massive layoffs makes a congressional pay raise OK?

Democratic lawmakers have dragged CEOs of oil companies, carmakers and banks to Washington and blowtorched them on TV about their pay, stock options and severance deals. They pushed CEOs to make symbolic gestures like working for a buck a year.

Yet Congress itself won't take part in the sacrifice. Our representatives may succeed in raising their pay, but the price will be taxpayers raising hell.

Govt. Spending UP 25% Before BAILOUTS

The government's spending commitments exploded by 25 percent in 2008, putting taxpayers more than $1 trillion in the hole even before the astronomical costs of the economic bailout were taken into account, according to an annual report released Monday by the White House.

A joint report by the White House budget office and Treasury Department said that much of the increase in obligations came from an unexpected jump in veterans benefits liabilities, while revenues remained mostly flat because of the recession that began a year ago.

Jim Nussle, director of the White House Office of Management and Budget, called the report "sobering."

The report showed that U.S. debts and liabilities are close to passing the value of the U.S. population's net worth, said Peter G. Peterson Foundation, a nonprofit organization devoted to promoting fiscal responsibility.

"The value of this report is that it shows the long-term cost of expensive commitments we are making today," said Brian Riedl, a budget analyst for the Heritage Foundation.

"The government makes a lot of commitments that cost a little in the short run but a lot in the long run, and this document is one of the only government documents that show the long-term cost of the long-term commitments," Mr. Riedl said. "What it shows is that future trends are completely unsustainable because the government has promised more benefits than the taxpayers can pay for."

The costs of the $700 billion economic rescue package were not included in the report because it covered only the budget year that ended Sept. 30. The bailout was passed and signed into law in early October.

However, the Treasury did borrow $300 billion from taxpayers in fiscal 2008 to "to increase cash balances at the [Federal Reserve] so that the Fed can assist with market stabilization efforts," the report said.

Peterson Foundation President David Walker, the nation's former comptroller, called for President-elect Barack Obama to make "tough choices ... to strengthen the government's financial condition once the economy begins growing again."

The report said current revenues are sufficient to pay only half of what the government will owe in 30 years and that the government's debt has put the country on a path to "create financial sector instability, increasing risk and uncertainty across many sectors of the U.S. economy."

The $1 trillion "net operating cost" in the report - up from $275.5 billion in fiscal 2007 - is different from the federal budget deficit because it uses proper accounting standards to include future spending obligations. The federal budget measures only "dollars in and dollars out" in a given year, Mr. Riedl said.

The deficit in fiscal 2008, which ended Sept. 30, was $454.8 billion, up from $162.8 billion in fiscal 2007. The deficit itself is expected to be about $1 trillion in fiscal 2009.

The increases in spending have prompted many conservatives to criticize President Bush, who ran in 2000 on reducing the size of government and introducing spending restraint. Under Mr. Bush, the size of government has grown by more than under any other U.S. president since President Roosevelt implemented the New Deal and fought World War II.

The Bush administration said much of the increase over time has been because of its spending on defense and homeland security in response to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

But the explosion in total costs in fiscal 2008 was in large part because of an unforeseen spike in the future costs of veterans benefits, which grew by $339 billion.

Federal revenues grew by barely 1 percent, as "the developing recession precipitated a significant decline in corporate tax revenues," which fell from $375 billion in fiscal 2007 to $307.5 billion.

The Peter G. Peterson Foundation said the report showed "an estimated $56.4 trillion in debts, liabilities and promises for Medicare and Social Security versus a total household net worth of $56.5 trillion."

man has been charged with first-degree murder after a shooting at an office Christmas party in Vancouver Friday.

Police allege Eric Allen Kirkpatrick, 61, opened fire at the TallGrass Distribution Ltd Christmas party, killing Benjamin David Banky, 40.

Banky was the CEO of TallGrass Distribution Ltd., a natural health products company.

At least a dozen employees had been celebrating when the gunman, who had been recently laid off, entered the party and began firing a gun, according to Vancouver Police spokesperson Const. Tim Fanning.

The other partygoers managed to escape unharmed.

"The shock was tremendous but all the other people in the business - and there another dozen other people who were there for a Christmas party - managed to get out safely," Fanning said.

Police locked down the neighbourhood before the suspect turned himself in around 6 p.m.

Police said Kirkpatrick was let go on Dec. 11.

A resident who lives in a nearby apartment building told The Canadian Press that he did not hear gunshots, but saw a woman run from the party and into a nearby auto repair shop, where it appears she called for help.

"All of a sudden in my front yard there were five totally decked out, geared up riot squad officers with guns out of the holster, aiming at the second floor of the building right beside us," Luke Pigeon said. "I tried to open up my door and they said close your door, lock your door."

Mark Pinder told The Canadian Press that police ordered a group of film studio employees into the basement of their building, which was across the street from the party.

The group was just about to celebrate the completion of a project when police came knocking, he said.

"People grabbed a couple of bowls of chips and dip and we just sort of moved the party downstairs," Pinder said.

"Some people seemed quite concerned but there wasn't anyone freaking out or crying. Everyone was calling their family and making sure that people knew they were OK."

Pigeon said police spent about two hours negotiating with the suspect before bringing him into custody.

"They cuffed him on the ground and they took him into a cruiser," he said.

"He was giving them a bit of grief, he was saying that his cuffs hurt, but he was following orders."

Employees who had been at the party at the time of the shooting are receiving counselling from the Vancouver police victim's services team.

"I can't emphasize enough how traumatic this would have been for the people in there to see one of their co-workers gunned down, so we're going to do all we can to help these people though a very, very difficult time," Fanning said.

Another day, another oil company fleeing the country. No, this isn't Ecuador, the banana republic that just defaulted on its debt after chasing out investors. It's the United States, and what we're seeing is self-defense.

political hay has been made in Congress about "unpatriotic" corporations that move operations abroad. Weatherford International is the latest, taking its headquarters from Houston to Switzerland. The oil services company said that it wants to be closer to its markets. But what it really meant was that it no longer saw the future in the U.S.

In a political atmosphere of blaming corporations, it's no wonder. Halliburton fled to Dubai in 2007. Tyco International, Foster Wheeler and Transocean International all went to Switzerland. As a pattern emerges, America's global standing diminishes, in part because it's based on the willingness of companies to invest. It's an especially bad sign when domestic companies flee.

"The U.S. is an important market," Weatherford CEO Bernard J. Duroc-Danner told the Houston Chronicle Thursday. But, "it's just a market. It's not the primary market."

How does that sound for a loss of global leadership? If that's not clear enough, try this: "In the hierarchical pecking order, (Houston's) not going to be Rome anymore."

What accounts for this vote of no confidence in the U.S.?

Start with the demonization of oil companies. Executives have been hauled before Congressional star chambers, held up to abuse and ridicule, and then blamed for high oil prices as if they wanted to kill their markets. Rising global demand, nationalizations and Congress' failure to open the country to drilling go ignored.

Huge companies such as Exxon Mobil, whose market cap exceeds the GDP of most countries, create $100 billion in earnings in quarters when oil prices soar. It looks high, but over the years, the industry's average returns, at 9%, are less than other industries.

Nevertheless, Exxon's profits are evidence of its success at extracting oil from miles below the earth's surface, even underwater, and from unbelievably hostile environments, such as the Arctic. Instead of being objects of national pride for their productivity and efficiency, and subjects of heroic Hollywood movies, their success is considered to be dishonest.

Congressional hostility affects oil companies' operations abroad, too: Exxon, remember, noted that Congress' animus toward oil profits directly encouraged Hugo Chavez's uncompensated expropriations of $1 billion of Exxon's assets in Venezuela, which drove oil prices higher.

With an expanded Democratic Congress and an incoming Democratic president determined to create "patriot corporations," it's no surprise to see companies try to get out while they can. Make no mistake — it's investment fleeing the country. As this goes, foreign capital could flee next.

Congress' abuse sets the political tone for the worst to come.

First, oil companies, like all corporations, endure the second-highest taxation in the developed world (39.25% of their income), which dampens their competitiveness. The 2007 OECD average is 27.6% and falling. Worse still, U.S. firms are taxed on operations around the world, unlike the global standard, making a move of headquarters a defensive move.

Meanwhile, politicians openly say they want to hike taxes on oil firms. President-elect Obama seems to have backed off, but questions remain as to whether he can stand up to a rapacious and economically ignorant Congress that hasn't.

Second, Big Labor is feeling its oats, swaggering confidently with newfound political power. United Steelworkers approved a "national oil bargaining policy" for higher wages and beefed up its "strike defense fund," both of which point to plans to squeeze oil companies, if not launch strikes.

"You have to prepare your membership for 2009," according to USW International Vice President Gary Beevers on a union Web site. "The oil companies are ready for us; we have to be ready for them." With Congress at their back, oil companies are unlikely to lose.

None of this portends well for the U.S. business environment. That's why top-performing firms, such as Weatherford, are exiting. Until Congress learns to appreciate and value oil firms, this will continue, leading to less U.S. investment and influence as more competitive climes beckon.

POZNAN, Poland (Reuters) - The U.S. Senate will let President-elect Barack Obama sign up to a U.N. pact to fight global warming in late 2009 even if U.S. climate laws are not yet in place, U.S. Senator John Kerry predicted on Thursday.

But Kerry, designated head of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said on the sidelines of U.N. climate talks in Poland that China, India and Russia would also have to promise to cut greenhouse gas emissions to win Senate blessing of any pact.

"It will be like the difference between night and day," Kerry, of Massachusetts, said of Obama's enthusiasm for action against climate change after what he said were eight years of inaction under President George W. Bush.

He told Reuters support in the United States for climate action was strong enough to let Obama sign up for emissions cuts under a U.N. pact to be agreed in Copenhagen in late 2009 even if the Senate had not by then agreed matching U.S. climate laws.

"We can have commenced the (domestic) legislative process, we don't have to have completed it," before agreeing to cuts under a U.N. treaty, he said.

President Bill Clinton agreed in 1997 to the U.N.'s existing Kyoto Protocol for cutting greenhouse gases until 2012 but never tried to get the pact ratified by a hostile Senate.

Kerry, a Democrat beaten by Bush in the 2004 presidential election, will report back to Obama from Poznan.

By the time of the Copenhagen meeting, domestic legislation might have passed "a couple of committees" but might not have reached the full Senate "because of the economic situation and the budget issues and other things," Kerry said.

CUTS

Obama has said he plans to cut U.S. emissions of greenhouse gases, now about 17 percent above 1990 levels, back to 1990 levels by 2020 and then by 80 percent below 1990 levels by 2050.

"Some of us believe he should go further than that" by 2020, Kerry said. "My hope is that ... we may even be able to do better."

Bush rejected Kyoto, which sets 2012 targets for 37 developed nations to cut emissions, saying it was too costly and should have also set targets for developing nations.

Kerry said that all major emitters would have to accept goals for cuts under a new treaty.

"What's important is that we go to Copenhagen understanding that no treaty is going to pass the U.S. Senate unless it is a global solution. China, India, Russia -- all countries have to be part of the solution," he said.

"China is now the largest emitter in the world," he said. "China has to reduce, in concrete fixed levels from its current levels. So do we. So does the EU (European Union), so does the rest of the world." Targets could vary by country.

China says that rich nations must cut most because they pump out most greenhouse gases per person, mainly from burning fossil fuels. In three months, the average American produces more greenhouse gases than the average Chinese does in a year.

Kerry said the Senate would work early in 2009 on a renewable energy bill and on measures to stimulate the economy -- including creating green jobs -- before turning to climate legislation.

Obama plans to set up a trading system to help cut carbon dioxide emissions. Asked if the United States would eventually get a cap and trade system, Kerry said: "Personally I'd like to see it but you don't have to have it."

By the way, if you were counting right now, one, two, three, four, five, six -- it would take you 32 days to get to a million. It would take you 32 years to count to a billion. It would take you 32,000 years to count to a trillion. So it's a big number but anyway, Krugman says how much money can we spend? The answer's a lot, not unlimited but a trillion here, a trillion there, and pretty soon you're talking about real money.

May I just ask a question? Is that anyone else's definition of real money? After a few trillion dollars, that's when we're really starting to talk about real money? You know what the problem is? Just so you know what that means, I want you to -- you know what, go to a bank today and ask them if you can borrow 100% of your salary. Just go to a bank today. Stu, can you call a bank, see if you can borrow 100% of your salary today? Find out --

GLENN: Find out what you need. Oh, by the way, and you don't really need any down payment. You are just going to use your good name, okay? Oh, and by the way, tell them that you are already -- let's see, if 100% is $10 trillion, then tell them you're already five to eight times past your yearly salary in debt but you want to borrow another 100% of your yearly income. Yeah, the bank is going to do that. That makes perfect sense. Don't worry; you're different. You don't understand how governments work. It's totally different for them. So anyway, once we start talking about real money, he says we can probably borrow up to 100% of our GDP. "If you work that out, we probably have $10 trillion of running room if we have to use it. We don't want to get there but we've got a long way to go." Do we, Paul? $7.6 trillion is what they have spent since September, $7.6 trillion is what you're on the hook for. You didn't approve it, I didn't approve it. Paulson did. Bernanke did. Unelected people. They approved $7.6 trillion in guarantees. Congratulations. This is like -- so you have some idea of what Paul is trying to convince you of, let's say you're going on vacation and you say to your family, "Okay, we have everything?" And your wife says, "Yeah, now, how much can we spend on vacation?" "Well, honey, let's see. I'm going to bring $800. So we can spend $800. We don't want to spend $800, but we have it just in case." That's when she looks at you and says, "Honey, we're only at the airport and we've already spent $600." We haven't even begun to fight this battle. We are five minutes into a five-hour journey and we've already spent $7.6 trillion, and Paul says don't worry, we've got up to 10? Oh, well, Pina Coladas for everybody.

By the way, in the last six months on the days when Ben Bernanke speaks, the Dow has fallen 2300 points. What does that tell you? That tells you that nobody believes these people. They know, leave it alone, back off, back off. Meanwhile, is anybody going to admit a problem?

Try this on. This one actually comes from Great Britain. You know how, you know, when the government sucks, how you just wish somebody would come out and say, man, we suck. Kind of like David Walker, he was the chief accountant, you know, bean counter guy for the government? He finally left because he wanted to make sure that everybody knew exactly how crappy the government was at keeping books. Well, in the United Kingdom they're also apparently admitting some mistakes and here it is. You ready? Quote: Tough new targets on tackling climate change will cost Britain 500 pounds a year per household. It will push up utility bills and "Force 1.7 million Britons into fuel poverty by 2020."

Now let me ask you a question. Can you imagine any policy, any policy where people would accept that justification, where, oh, well, the planet is really on fire -- which it's not, by the way -- and it would force 1.7 million people into fuel poverty? You imagine it? You imagine if we said, "Hey, by the way, 1.7 million people are going to be in a fuel poverty but we have to fight a war, any war." By the way, remember that the U.K. has a much smaller population than we do. So we're talking about three times our entire homeless population going into poverty, three times our homeless population. Imagine our homeless population tripling. "The grim predictions came from independent government advisors yesterday as they set targets for slashing greenhouse gas emissions. The influential panel led by millionaire business guru wants the U.K. to cut levels by up to 42% within 12 years. It admitted that shifting to a low carbon economy would cost 1% of the gross domestic product." Oh, well, don't worry, you've got a lot -- 1% here, 1% there, another percent. I mean, pretty soon it adds up but we've got a long way to go. "It is the equivalent of 14 billion pounds a year, 500 pounds per household by 2020. The committee insisted the target was essential to prevent dangerous global warming." Okay, well, at least it will prevent dangerous global warming, right?

Let's take a look at the hypothetical here. Let's say the United Kingdom could reduce its emissions by 50% tomorrow, not by 42% like they are actually going to do. 42% by 2020. Let's just say they could do 50% by tomorrow, completely impossible but let's just say they could do it. Let's give them even more. If you could instantly cut in half the emissions of the United Kingdom, one of the world's biggest economies, and all of the saved emissions -- this is going to make your eyes bleed -- all of the saved emissions in the atmosphere, you could save them all, they would be replaced by the increase in world emissions in 110 days. It would take China alone to replace everything that the United Kingdom did if they could cut it by 50%, it would take China alone to replace it in 173 days, less than six months. By the way, let's forget about the fact the globe has cooled now for seven years. Ignore that. Is anybody else feeling like we have just completely dislodged from common sense? You know, maybe America needs to pick up Common Sense by Thomas Paine again. Maybe some of the people in our government need to read it. Maybe some of the economists need to read it. Maybe some of the tree huggers need to read it because you're going to be living under a tree. I hope they're not pissed. Not the tree huggers. The trees. They have feelings, too, you know. How many trees are we going to be able to save when we have absolutely no economy, when we're all out foraging for wood, you know, cutting down trees just to have a campfire so we can -- well, we can roast a stick but we can't make marshmallows anymore because they're in a plastic bag. Jeez. Sometimes I just wonder. You know, you look at Bernanke and he's speaking and the Dow goes down by 2300 points, you wonder why the President, his approval rating hasn't budged at all? Even though the war has gotten better, 35% said the war was a real problem; now it's 53% saying it's going well. I mean, jeez, and his approval rating doesn't go -- you know why? Because everybody feels in their gut everybody's being lied to. Everybody just feels in their gut, "I'm not getting the truth." It doesn't take a rocket scientist. You keep telling me that I'm not smart enough to figure it out. I'm smart enough to figure it out. I know that I can't go get a loan for 100% of my salary and expect to pay it off, especially if I already have taken out loans that equal six to eight times my entire salary. At some point I think I have to look at my wife and say, "Honey, there's no way to pay this one off." "Oh, don't worry about it, honey. Just go downstairs and print some more." "Yeah, I can't do that."

Preparing for Civil Unrest

EL PASO - A request to suspend or shorten the 10-year and 11-year prison terms given to former U.S. Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean remains pending because President Bush has yet to take action on the case, U.S. Department of Justice officials said.

In early October, the lawyers for Compean and Ramos filed a commutation order with the U.S. Department of Justice's Office of Pardon Attorney. In early November, the commutation request was temporarily put on the closed-without-

action list because the agents had to be resentenced.

Now that each has been resentenced, the request is pending again, and the lawyers and family members for both agents are hoping Bush will commute their sentences before he leaves office at noon Jan. 20. Last week, Bush issued pardons for 14 convicted criminals and commuted the sentences of two others. Ramos and Compean were not on that list.

"We have the support of millions of people throughout the country," said Joe Loya, Ramos' father-in-law. "And that includes about 150 congressmen and senators."

Among the elected officials who have publicly come out and supported the commutation for the agents, who were convicted of shooting a man, are Sens. John Cornyn, R-Texas; and Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif.

Rep. Silvestre Reyes, D-Texas, has also written the president asking for a commutation.

"That is still his position," Reyes' spokesman Peter Brock said.

One of the national organizations that has been flooding the White House with letters supporting Ramos and Compean is Riders U.S.A., a group of motorcycle owners.

Member Valerie Roller said the group will not stop applying pressure until something is done.

"We want to make sure the president reviews this case and that he does commute their sentences," Roller said.

In November, several members of Riders U.S.A. rode to El Paso to be at the courthouse for the resentencings of Ramos and Compean.

At each resentencing, each man was given the exact same sentences he had received two years ago because one of the crimes for which they were convicted - discharging a firearm in the process of another crime - comes with a mandatory 10-year sentence.

It is this 10-year sentence that elected officials and others say is too harsh. During the November resentencing, U.S. District Court Judge Kathleen Cardone told both Compean and Ramos that she could not lower or adjust the 10-year sentence.

Even U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton has called the 10-year sentence too much for these former agents.

Ramos' lawyer, David Botsford, said he hopes Bush takes into account what Sutton has said.

"Hopefully, Mr. Sutton, who has publicly admitted that the sentence is too harsh, will recommend to the president that at least a portion of their sentence be commuted," Botsford said.

During the resentencing hearing in El Paso, Botsford said the commutation order was needed because the conditions in which the agents are being held are inhumane.

Both Ramos and Compean are in isolation for their own protection. That means they:

Georgian Foreign Minister Eka Tkeshelashvili said Wednesday that Russian forces were erecting a "Berlin Wall" as part of a campaign to cut off rebel regions from the rest of the country.
Russia is trying to divide Abkhazia and South Ossetia from the rest of Georgia, she said in a speech to the International Institute for Strategic Studies think-tank in London.

Tkeshelashvili said Russia was building a wall at Zugdidi, a city at the Abkhaz border.

"Russia physically destroys physical links between the regions of Georgia," she said. "It is blowing up bridges in Gali region so that it is harder for people to go to the neighbouring region of Samegrelo.

"In Zugdidi city, for that matter, they are building a wall which will be not perhaps the size of the Berlin Wall but is something resembling that.

"The same goes for South Ossetia with which the roads and then bridges are being blown up. In physical terms, they try to dismember these regions in such a way that there's a physical detachment of these regions.

And she warned: "If Russia is allowed to continue along the way, that would damage the process of talks and negotiations."

Russian troops and tanks poured into Georgia on August 8 to repel a Georgian military attempt to retake South Ossetia, which had received extensive backing from Moscow for years.

Russian forces occupied swathes of the country, but later withdrew to within South Ossetia and Abkhazia, which Moscow recognised as independent states.

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Wednesday she would not insist on granting NATO membership to Georgia and Ukraine at the military alliance's ministerial meeting in Brussels next week.

Tkeshelashvili, 31, said Georgia still aspired to join Western community frameworks.

"It's not NATO membership that unnerves Russia," she said. "It's the very fact of the independence of Georgia and the possibility of independence of other countries (formerly under Moscow's control).

"The blackmailing of Russia cannot be successful."

She added: "If Russia is allowed to be effective in reinstating the Soviet Union, it will be a danger not only for Georgia."

Outgoing US President George W. Bush was a staunch ally of Georgia during the August war with Russia.

But despite Washington cooling its support for a formal path to help Georgia join NATO, Tkeshelashvili said she was not worried about the incoming US president-elect Barack Obama being less attentive to Georgia.

"There are no concerns of that type attached to the situation," she said.

"We have had very interesting consultations with the possible new administration and then with the president-elect himself."

Both Obama and vice president-elect Joseph Biden had made a "very firm commitment to the cause of Georgia's independence and sovereignty" on a number of occasions.

Key members of the incoming administration have "a very full understanding what is the situation in the in the region, what are the challenges ahead, what needs to be done," she said.

"I don't think that there will be any chance of fading interest from the United States."

Remember those 68 million acres House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the oil companies had to use or lose? According to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco, they can't drill there either.

When President Bush lifted the executive order banning oil and gas exploration in federally protected offshore areas, Speaker Pelosi called the action a giveaway of "more public resources to the very same oil companies that are sitting on 68 million acres of federal lands they've already leased."

We thought it was nonsense to accuse the oil companies of sitting on profitable oil resources waiting for sky-high oil prices to rise even higher. We still do. With gas prices having fallen back to earth, her vast oil-rig conspiracy theory seems to have fallen flat.

Proving it was so much hot air was Royal Dutch Shell's recent expenditure of $2.1 billion to acquire oil leases in the Chukchi Sea off Alaska and spending $84 million to buy leases in the Beaufort Sea. Clearly they weren't sitting on anything and wanted to drill and wanted to get these oil and gas reserves into the hungry American economy.

Last Thursday, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals blocked a major drilling effort in the Beaufort Sea, ruling that federal officials failed to properly address environmental concerns when they granted permission to Shell Oil to drill there. The decision followed a temporary order issued last year that halted Shell's drilling at Sivulliq, 16 miles off the coast of northern Alaska.

"There remains substantial questions as to whether Shell's plan may cause significant harm to the people and wildlife of the Beaufort Sea region," the current ruling said.

It was prompted by a pair of combined lawsuits filed by environmental and Native groups that alleged oil drilling in the Beaufort Sea would disturb migrating whales.

In a July interview with IBD in which we asked better questions than Katie Couric, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, before she was picked as John McCain's running mate, said: "There are even bigger sources of crude than ANWR . . . such as offshore areas like the Chukchi Sea and Beaufort Sea."

Palin in May challenged the listing of the polar bear as an endangered species; the listing was another move designed to block drilling in these areas. She argued that polar bears were and are well-managed and their population has dramatically increased over the last 30 years. Since 1960, when the Alaska oil hunt began, only two oil-related bear fatalities have been documented, according to the federal Mineral Management Service.

The problem, Palin said, was "we frequently find ourselves at the mercy of those who think that we must be protected from ourselves. Shell is up here wanting to drill offshore, but they've been fighting various environmental groups through the 9th Circuit Court and are running into very fierce push-back."

The Alaskan Outer Continental Shelf holds 26.6 billion barrels of recoverable crude oil and 132 trillion cubic feet of recoverable natural gas, according to recent Minerals Management Service estimates. Most of that is in the Beaufort and Chukchi seas.

In the March/April issue of Foreign Affairs, Scott Borgerson, an international affairs fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, noted: "The U.S. Geological Survey and the Norwegian company StatoilHydro estimate that the Arctic holds as much as one-quarter of the world's remaining undiscovered oil and gas deposits."

Oil companies have been criticized for not using their "obscene" profits to find more oil and then are attacked by the greenies when they want to. Everywhere oil exploration and development have occurred in Alaska, wildlife from polar bears to caribou has thrived.

Greedy oil executives aren't the ones who block developing existing leases. It's environmental activists and their black-robed friends.

Evil acts can be given an aura of moral legitimacy by noble-sounding socialistic expressions such as spreading the wealth, income redistribution or caring for the less fortunate. Let's think about socialism.

Imagine there's an elderly widow down the street from you. She has neither the strength to mow her lawn nor enough money to hire someone to do it. Here's my question to you, and I'm almost afraid of the answer:

Would you support a government mandate that forces one of your neighbors to mow the lady's lawn each week? If he failed to follow the government orders, would you approve of some kind of punishment ranging from house arrest and fines to imprisonment?

In Favor Of Slavery

I'm hoping that the average American would condemn such a government mandate because it would be a form of slavery, the forcible use of one person to serve the purposes of another.

Would there be the same condemnation if instead of the government forcing your neighbor to physically mow the widow's lawn, the government forced him to give the lady $40 of his weekly earnings? That way the widow could hire someone to mow her lawn.

I'd say that there is little difference between the mandates. While the mandate's mechanism differs, it is nonetheless the forcible use of one person to serve the purposes of another.

Probably most Americans would have a clearer conscience if all the neighbors were forced to put money in a government pot and a government agency would send the widow a weekly sum of $40 to hire someone to mow her lawn.

This mechanism makes the particular victim invisible, but it still boils down to one person being forcibly used to serve the purposes of another. Putting the money into a government pot makes palatable such acts that would otherwise be deemed morally offensive.

This is why socialism is evil. It employs evil means, coercion or taking the property of one person, to accomplish good ends, helping one's fellow man.

Helping one's fellow man in need, by reaching into one's own pockets, is a laudable and praiseworthy goal. Doing the same through coercion and reaching into another's pockets has no redeeming features and is worthy of condemnation.

Some people might contend that we are a democracy where the majority agrees to the forcible use of one person for the good of another. But does a majority consensus confer morality to an act that would otherwise be deemed immoral?

In other words, if a majority of the widow's neighbors voted to force one neighbor to mow her law, would that make it moral?

I don't believe any moral case can be made for the forcible use of one person to serve the purposes of another. But that conclusion is not nearly as important as the fact that so many of my fellow Americans give wide support to using people. I would like to think it is because they haven't considered that more than $2 trillion of the over $3 trillion federal budget represents Americans using one another.

Madison Rejected

Of course, they might consider it compensatory justice. For example, one American might think:

"Farmers get Congress to use me to serve the needs of some farmers. I'm going to get Congress to use someone else to serve my needs by subsidizing my child's college education."

The bottom line is that we've become a nation of thieves, a value rejected by our founders. James Madison, the father of our Constitution, was horrified when Congress appropriated $15,000 to help French refugees. He said, "I cannot undertake to lay my finger on that article of the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on objects of benevolence, the money of their constituents."

Tragically, today's Americans would run Madison out of town on a rail.

The world’s national oil companies expect oil prices to fall further and will cancel most planned investment projects even at current levels, according to the head of a Chinese state-owned group.

A recent meeting of the national oil companies in Beijing had predicted oil prices would fall to about $40 a barrel, Fu Chengyu, chief executive of China National Offshore Oil Corporation, told a conference in Barcelona.

“The consensus at the time was that everybody realised the oil price would be even lower,” Mr Fu told the Global China Business meeting. “Nobody knew where it would be but most of them said around $40.”

Mr Fu said that about 27 companies from 23 countries attended the meeting in Beijing, which he said was on October 17 or 18, though he declined to name those present. He described the tone of the meeting as one of “panic” at falling prices.

Executives thought that the oil price would soon rebound to about $50-$55, he said, but even at those levels, investment in new production would be cut back heavily.

“If the oil price remained around $50 or $55, that would mean cutting at least 60 per cent of budgeted projects for the next one or two years from the national oil companies,” Mr Fu said.

Of the new extraction projects planned by state-owned oil companies in deep-sea areas, the lowest break-even oil price was about $60 a barrel and the highest about $90 per barrel, he said.

“When most of the oil companies budgeted their projects, they were using $70, $80, even $100 a barrel for their cash flow calculations,” he said. “For those projects that have started, certainly they will try to complete them, but for those projects that have not started yet they will delay or cancel. Simply, they don’t have enough cash to do all of those that they budgeted.”

Mr Fu also said that any cut in production by Opec, the cartel of oil exporting countries, was regarded as likely to be ineffectual. “Most of the consensus said that if Opec cut production, it might not be as effective as they thought,” said Mr Fu.

Even when Opec had previously announced an output reduction of 1.5m barrels a day, the global oil price still went down, Mr Fu added.

Another Global Warming Fraud Exposed

Despite record snows and low temperatures around the world last month, a major Al Gore supporter says October was the hottest on record. The only thing being cooked here is not the Earth, but the books.

James Hansen, head of NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies and global warming alarmist, is Al Gore's favorite scientist, part of that mythical global warming "consensus" that says we are doomed and man is the culprit. On Nov. 10 he announced that last month was the hottest October on record and we were still doomed.

Dr. Hansen has not only become global warming's Robin to Al Gore's Batman, he has also been a critic of the "deniers," those who dare to insist that the debate is far from over, and that the computer models used can't even predict the past, much less the future.

Hansen has said in the past that "heads of major fossil-fuel companies who spread disinformation about global warming should be 'tried for high crimes against humanity and nature.' " They pay for self-serving studies, and any scientist who disagrees with Gore is obviously on the take.

Christopher Booker, writing in the U.K. Telegraph, reports that Hansen apparently has been spreading disinformation all his own to come up with a conclusion that flies in the face of empirical evidence we can see with our own eyes.

Hansen's claim of the hottest October ever came after reports of unseasonal snow and record low temperatures.

China's official news agency reported that Tibet had suffered its "worst snowstorm ever."

The Swiss lowlands last month got the most snow for any October since records began.

Zurich received 20 centimeters, breaking the record of 14 cm set in 1939. Ocala, Fla., experienced the second-lowest temperature recorded for October since 1850.

Elsewhere in the U.S., the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration registered 63 local snowfall records and 115 lowest-ever temperatures for the month, and ranked it as only the 70th warmest October in 114 years. So how did Hansen claim it was the warmest?

Booker writes: "The reason for the freak figures was that scores of temperature records from Russia and elsewhere were not based on October readings at all. Figures from the previous month had simply been carried over and repeated two months running."

As Booker reports, the glaring error was picked up by two intrepid climate bloggers — U.S. meteorologist Anthony Watts of Watts Up With That and Steve McIntyre of Climate Audit.

McIntyre is the Canadian computer analyst who won fame for his expert debunking of the infamous "hockey stick" graph that purported to show Earth's temperature as stable until man started building SUVs, causing a sharp upward spike.

Caught with its pants down, the Goddard Institute started juggling its books. To compensate for the carrying over of the bogus temperature readings, it claimed to have discovered a new "hotspot" in the Arctic — in a month when satellite images were showing Arctic sea-ice 30% more extensive than at the same time last year. Ooops.

If Dr. Hansen thinks oil company executives should be tried for crimes against humanity for being skeptical about global warming claims and seeking the truth, what should the penalty be for him and his ilk? He is yelling fire in a crowded planet.

The Goddard now says it got the data from another body and didn't have the resources to verify the data. In the computer world, there's a phrase for this — garbage in, garbage out. The institute's figures are one of four data sets used by the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change to come up with its doomsday scenarios.

We took a little, er, heat recently when we wrote that major agencies tracking earth's temperature (including the Hadley Climate Research Unit in Britain, the Christy group at the University of Alabama and Remote Sensing Systems Inc. in California) had reported "the earth cooled 0.7C in 2007, the fastest decline in the age of instrumentation, putting us back to where the earth was in 1930."

Others, we were told, were claiming it wasn't so. They'd better check their numbers.

Below $50??

Nov. 14 (Bloomberg) -- OPEC, supplier of more than 40 percent of the world's oil, will probably announce plans to lower supply for the third time in as many months to prevent prices plunging toward $50 a barrel, a Bloomberg survey showed.

The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries will cut output at a meeting in Cairo on Nov. 29, according to 17 of 18 analysts surveyed by Bloomberg. Fourteen of the analysts predict the reduction will be 1 million barrels a day or more.

``Given the rapid deterioration in the flow of economic data, and implications for further oil demand weakness, OPEC might have to cut by at least an extra 1 million barrels in order to catch the market's attention,'' said Harry Tchilinguirian, senior oil analyst at BNP Paribas SA in London.

The Cairo summit, originally intended for only the group's Arab members, was upgraded to a full OPEC meeting yesterday as oil prices dropped to a 21-month low.

Ministers from Algeria and Iran have said that production may have to be cut. The group announced a reduction of 1.5 million barrels a day on Oct. 24, on top of an earlier resolution in September to pare excess supplies by observing official output quotas.

`No Effect'

``In order to strengthen prices, OPEC is very likely to recommend another production cut as the two previous ones had no effect,'' Iran's OPEC governor Mohammad Ali Khatibi told the Mehr News agency in Tehran today. ``The market is in turmoil.''

OPEC President and Algerian Oil Minister Chakib Khelil told reporters in Algiers on Nov. 8 that an output reduction may be necessary. After Cairo, the group's next scheduled conference is in Oran, Algeria, on Dec. 17.

Oil futures in New York fell to $54.67 a barrel yesterday, the lowest since Jan. 30, 2007, and more than $90 below the record of $147.27 touched on July 11. Crude for December delivery traded at $56.44 as of 12:02 p.m. local time today.

``Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Kuwait might be happy with lower prices to help the global economy but will probably go along with an agreement for the sake of OPEC unity,'' said Peter Beutel, president of energy consultant Cameron Hanover Inc. in New Canaan, Connecticut.

``I expect there will be another production cut announced in Cairo unless we have a massive rally before then,'' Beutel said.

OPEC is still in the process of implementing supply restrictions announced at its September and October summits.

Monthly Output

Eleven members subject to output quotas collectively pumped 29.095 million barrels a day last month, according to Bloomberg estimates, compared with an official ceiling of 28.8 million barrels a day.

The group will need to scale back production by about 1.2 million barrels a day to complete output cuts implied since September, industry consultant Oil Movements said yesterday. OPEC's current target, which took effect Nov. 1, is 27.3 million barrels a day.

Predictions by analysts expecting OPEC to cut this month range between 500,000 barrels a day and 3 million barrels a day. The one analyst who doesn't expect an output reduction in Cairo said the group may signal at the meeting that it will reduce production in December.

Others said the producer group needs to adopt a degree of caution given the slowing global economy.

``To retain credibility, they're going to have to go for 1 million barrels a day'' in Cairo, said John Hall, managing director of London-based consultants John Hall Associates Ltd. ``It'll send a message, but OPEC has to recognize the world is moving into recession, and it was high oil prices that set off the initial recessionary move this year.''

Justice: Two Border Patrol agents convicted of shooting a drug smuggler have been resentenced for the crime of protecting the borders of the United States. Mr. President, you do not have the right to remain silent.

Former agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean are 20 months into their sentences for shooting drug dealer Osvaldo Aldrete Davila, who tried to elude the two agents after driving a van near Fabens, Texas, that was found to hold 743 pounds of marijuana. He tried to flee back to Mexico and was shot in the buttocks by the agents who had reason to believe he was armed.

Last week the two agents had their resentencing hearing before U.S. District Judge Kathleen Cordone. The hearing was prompted by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals' throwing out a minor obstruction of justice count. Ramos and Compean were resentenced to virtually their original 11- and 12-year sentences, the bulk of which is a mandatory sentence of 10 years for the use of a firearm in the commission of a crime.

Ramos and Compean were charged under section 924(c) of the criminal code. This section is intended to punish felons who use firearms in the commission of a crime, not law enforcement officers attempting to apprehend lawbreakers.

Rep. Ted Poe, R-Texas, who plans to introduce clarifying legislation, says: "It was never the intent of Congress to have U/S.C. Section 924 (c) apply to law enforcement officers."

Compean and Ramos thought they were fulfilling their duties on Feb. 17, 2005, when they shot an allegedly unarmed Aldrete Davila as he was fleeing back into Mexico. They were also convicted of violating Aldrete Davila's civil rights and trying to conceal their "crime."

From the beginning U.S. Attorney for West Texas Johnny Sutton took the word of Aldrete Davila over anything the two agents had to say. In exchange for testifying against the two agents, Davila was given immunity from prosecution for smuggling drugs on the day he was shot. He was also given a border pass card issued by the Department of Homeland Security.

Aldrete Davila showed his gratitude by breaking his immunity agreement in exchange for testifying against the two agents by trying to smuggle another 753 pounds of weed into the U.S. the following October. It is that second incident that Sutton successfully concealed from the jury.

As Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R.-Calif., has pointed out, "the prime witness against these two border patrol agents was involved in another major load of drugs and the prosecution made a conscious decision to keep these facts from the jury." At the original trial Judge Cardone ruled that the defense could not raise the issue of the second drug load or ask Aldrete Davila about it.

Incredibly, in an Orwellian ruling, the appeals court said: "The exclusion of evidence relating to the size of the marijuana load and Aldrete-Davila's alleged involvement in drug-trafficking events of October 2005 did not violate the defendants' Sixth Amendment rights to present a complete defense nor did it deny them a proper examination of a witness against them." It didn't?

Instead of being exposed as a liar and a career criminal, Aldrete Davila was allowed by prosecutor Sutton to present himself as an inexperienced drug smuggler who only committed the one offense, and then only because he had lost his commercial driver's license in Mexico, and needed money to buy medicine for his sick mother.

Ramos' attorney, David Botsford, says a clemency petition for his client is pending with the Office of the Pardon Attorney. Ramos has been held in solitary confinement under conditions liberals would not tolerate at Guantanamo Bay for his protection. He was assaulted his first week in prison.

With the possible exception of Durham, N.C., D.A. Mike Nifong's railroading of the Duke University lacrosse players, we have not seen a more egregious abuse of prosecutorial discretion. Ramos and Compean deserve to be pardoned. They also deserve to be declared innocent by the president of the United States.

If you want to know why most of the mainstream media continues to spout the voice of energy shortages you only need to look at the example of the East Texas Oil Field. Production was so prolific from that field, oil prices went down to 10 cents a barrel and the Texas Rangers were dispatched to Kilgore and the Texas Railroad Commission was formed in response.

Oil Prices were unsustainable. Just like farm product prices are when productive Americans get involved. Oil prices just like corn, soybeans and wheat only become in short supplies when governments get in the way of production. Then prices go through the roof.

Oil and food have become a matter of control for the elites over the masses.

South Texas Triple Resourse Play

The new shale plays we were talking about, the Pearsall and Eagle Ford shales, are discussed by TXCO in presentations recorded on the web at http://www.txco.com/presentation.html (open the audio and the slides at the same time).

They have just reported the latest results,
A horizontal Pearsall well drilled by TXCO under the EnCana farm-in agreement, the Myers 2-683H (50 percent working interest) was placed on production in late September at 2.8 mmcfd on a 10/64-inch choke with 3,239 psi flowing tubing pressure. The well averaged 2.2 mmcfd during the first 12 days of production even though it was curtailed by the low-pressure pipeline system into which it is producing. This well was drilled horizontally and completed using a cemented 4.5-inch liner with a five-stage fracture stimulation job. This was the third and final well required to be drilled under Phase I of the farm-in. Based on the success of the three initial wells, TXCO has elected to move to Phase II and will drill four additional Pearsall wells before July 1, 2009.

On the Anadarko farm-in, four wells have been drilled. A fracture stimulation is under way on the Briscoe Chupadera 1 (50% WI through completion). The re-entry was limited to 1,800 feet laterally and a 2.875-inch liner run and cemented in place. The San Pedro 2H (50% WI through completion) is a newly drilled well with a 3,050-foot lateral and a 4.5-inch liner and is waiting on a fracture stimulation which has been delayed as result of a current tight supply of high-strength proppants. This was the fourth well drilled under Phase I of the Anadarko farm-in agreement requiring two Pearsall and two Eagleford test wells. Following stimulation of the San Pedro 2H, TXCO intends to exercise its right to move to Phase II of the agreement and drill four additional wells within the next year. St. Mary Land & Exploration Company also is participating with TXCO under the agreement.
On the Eagleford shale play, the Briscoe Catarina Ranch 1H (50% WI) was re-entered and drilled 3,300 feet horizontally. After a five-stage fracture stimulation, the well went on production at the end of August and has averaged 80 bopd and 533 mcfd for the first 30 days. The San Pedro 1H (50% WI through completion) was re-entered and drilled 3,450 feet horizontally and currently is flowing back following a five-stage fracture stimulation performed in early October. The well has averaged 236 bopd and 664 mcfd during the first seven days of flowback.
Oct. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Petrohawk Energy Corporation ("Petrohawk" or the "Company") (NYSE: HK) announced a significant new natural gas field discovery in the Eagle Ford Shale in South Texas . This new field in La Salle County , Texas , was discovered after extensive regional subsurface and seismic mapping, geochemical analysis and petrophysical study. The Company has leased over 100,000 net acres in what it believes to be the most prospective areas for commercial production from the Eagle Ford Shale. The field is located immediately south of the Stuart City Field, which is on the Edwards Reef Trend that extends across South Texas .
The discovery well, the STS #241-1H, was drilled to an approximate true vertical depth of 11,300 feet during which extensive coring and open hole logging was performed. An approximate 3,200-foot lateral was drilled and subsequently fracture stimulated with over two million pounds of sand in ten stages. The well was placed on production at a rate of 9.1 million cubic feet of natural gas equivalent per day (7.6 million cubic feet of natural gas per day and 250 barrels of condensate per day). A confirmation well, the second well drilled on the project, the Dora Martin #1H, which is approximately 15 miles from the discovery well, has been drilled, cored and logged. The quality of the Eagle Ford Shale in this well appears to be superior to that found in the STS #241-1H. The Company is currently drilling the lateral on this second well. The eagle ford may be prospective over multiple counties. We are focusing on northern Zavala, where there is heavy oil, eagle ford shale and pearsall shale – three resource plays in an area that has not caught a lot of attention yet.

I don’t know any other way to say this. I have always been critical of the doom and gloom crowd especially when it comes to Global Warming and people that use fear to profit from business schemes. I am not a gold bug or a La Rouse supporter. But I’ve been compelled by conscience to tell you this and I don’t even own any silver, yet. Heck, I never thought Y2K was anything but a joke.

Our economy is mortally wounded. The value of the dollar has been looted. The band aids the wiz kids in Washington and New York are placing on this gaping wound are for show. Our government and the Fed know their remedies will not work and time is quickly running out on the US Dollar and our government’s finances. I heard the financial disaster that’s about to befall our country will be similar to the towers falling on 911. It’s going to come fast and you need to take a few precautions to protect the health of you and your family.

Buy a few silver coins and 50# of beans and rice. Blow a couple of hundred bucks on an idea that may sound totally crazy to you now. If I’m wrong, give to coins to your grandkids someday, donate the food to the local food bank and flame me in an email.
If I am right it may be the difference between surviving and starving. I know that really sounds crazy but this can happen in our country in the very near future. I know Global Warming is a hoax but I believe this is real.

Do a little research; I believe you’re going to see some scary things in the next few months.

Mr. Obama,
Given the uproar about the simple question asked you by Joe, the plumber, and the persecution that has been heaped on him because he dared to question you, I find myself motivated to say a few things to you myself. While Joe aspires to start a business someday, I already have started not one, but 4 businesses. But first, let me introduce myself. You can call me 'Cory, the well driller'. I am a 54-year-old high school graduate. I didn't go to college like you, I was too ready to go 'conquer the world' when I finished high school. 25 years ago at age 29, I started my own water well drilling business at a time when the economy here in East Texas was in a tailspin from the crash of the early 80's oil boom. I didn't get any help from the government, nor did I look for any. I borrowed what I could from my sister, my uncle, and even the pawn shop and managed to scrape together a homemade drill rig and a few tools to do my first job. My businesses did not start not a result of privilege. It is the result of my personal drive, personal ambition, self discipline, self reliance, and a determination to treat my customers fairly. From the very start my business provided one other (than myself) East Texan a full time job. I couldn't afford a backhoe the first few years (something every well-drilling business had), so I and my helper had to dig the mud pits that are necessary for each and every job with hand shovels. I had to use my 10-year-old, ½-ton pickup truck for my water tank truck (normally a job for at least a 2-ton truck).

A year and a half after I started the business, I scraped together a 20% down payment to get a modest bank loan and bought a 28-year-old, worn-out, slightly bigger drilling rig to allow me to drill the deeper water wells in my area. I spent the next few years drilling wells with the rig while simultaneously rebuilding it between jobs. Through these years, I never knew from one month to the next if I would have any work or be able to pay the bills. I got behind on my income taxes one year, and spent the next two years paying that back (with penalty and interest) while keeping up with ongoing taxes. I got behind on my water well supply bill 2 different years (way behind the second time... $80,000.00), and spent over a year paying it back (each time) while continuing to pay for ongoing supplies C.O.D. Of course, the personal stress endured through these experiences and years is hard to measure. I do have a stent in my heart now to memorialize it all.

I spent the next 10 years developing the reputation for being the most competent and most honest water well driller in East Texas . 2 years along the way, I hired another full-time employee for the drilling business so we could provide full-time water well pump service as well as the well drilling. Also, 3 years along the path, I bought a water well screen service machine from a friend, starting business #2. 5 years later I made a business loan for $100,000.00 to build a new, higher production, computer controlled screen service machine. I had designed the machine myself, and it didn't work out for 3 years so I had to make the loan payments without the benefit of any added income from the new machine. No government program was there to help me with the payments, or to help me sleep at night as I lay awake wondering how I would solve my machine problems or pay my bills. Finally, after 3 years, I got the screen machine working properly, and that provided another full-time job for an East Texan in the screen service business.

2 years after that, I made another business loan, this time for $250,000.00, to buy another used drilling rig and all the support equipment needed to run another, larger, drill rig. This provided another 2 full-time jobs for East Texans. Again, I spent a couple of years not knowing if I had made a smart move, or a move that would bankrupt me. For the third time in 13 years, I had placed everything I owned on the line, risking everything, in order to build a business.

A couple of years into this, I came up with a bright idea for a new kind of mud pump, a fundamentally necessary pump used on water well drill rigs. I spent my entire life savings to date (just $30,000.00), building a prototype of the pump and took it to the national water well convention to show it off. Customers immediately started coming out of the woodwork to buy the pumps, but there was a problem. I had depleted my assets making the prototype, and nobody would make me a business loan to start production of the new pumps. With several deposits for pump orders in hand, and nowhere to go, I finally started applying for as many credit card as I could find and took cash withdrawals on these cards to the tune of over $150,000.00 (including modest loans from my dear sister and brother), to get this 3rd business going.

Yes, once again, I had everything hanging on the line in an effort to start another business. I had never manufactured anything, and I had to design and bring into production a complex hydraulic machine from an untested prototype to a reliable production model (in six months). How many nights I lay awake wondering if I had just made the paramount mistake of my life, I cannot tell you, but there were plenty. I managed to get the pumps into production, which immediately created another 2 full time jobs in East Texas . Some of the models in the first year suffered from quality issues due to the poor workmanship of one of my key suppliers, so I and an employee (another East Texan employed) had to drive across the country to repair customers' pumps, practically from coast to coast. I stood behind the product, and made payments to all the credit cards that had financed me (and my brother and sister). I spent the next 5 years improving and refining the product, building a reputation for the pump and the company, working to get the pump into drill rig manufacturers' product lines, and paying back credit cards. During all this time I continued to manage a growing water well business that was now operating 3 drill rig crews, and 2 well service crews. Also, the screen service business continued to grow. No government programs were there to help me, Mr. Obama, but that's okay, I didn't expect any, nor did I want any. I was too busy fighting to make success happen to sit around waiting for the government to help me.

Now, we have been manufacturing the mud pumps for 7 years, my combined businesses employ 32 full time employees, and distributes $5,000,000.00 annually through the local economy. Now, just 4 months ago I borrowed $1,254,000.00, purchasing computer-controlled machining equipment to start my 4th business, a production machine shop. The machine shop will serve the mud pump company so that we can better manufacture our pumps that are being shipped worldwide. Of course, the machine shop will also do work for outside companies as well. This has already produced 2 more full time jobs, and 2 more should develop out of it in the next few months. This should work out, but if it doesn't, it will be because you, and other professional politicians like yourself, will have destroyed our country's (and the world's) economy by meddling with mortgage loan programs through your liberal manipulation and intimidation of loaning institutions to make sure that unqualified borrowers could get mortgages.

You see, at the very time when I couldn't get a business loan to get my mud pumps into production, you were working with Acorn and the Community Reinvestment Act programs to make sure that unqualified borrowers could buy homes with no down payment, and even no credit, or worse yet, bad credit.....even the infamous, liberal, Ninja loans (No Income, No Job or Assets). While these unqualified borrowers were enjoying unrealistically low interest rates, I was paying 22% to 24% interest on the credit cards that I had used to provide me the funds for the mud pump business that has created jobs for more East Texans. It's funny, because after 25 years of turning almost every dime of extra money back into my businesses to grow them, it has been only in the last two years that I have finally made enough money to be able to put a little away for retirement, and now the value of that has dropped 40% because of the policies you and your ilk have perpetrated on our country.

You see, Mr. Obama, I'm the guy you intend to raise taxes on. I'm the guy who has spent 25 years toiling and sweating, fretting and fighting, stressing and risking, to build a business and get ahead. I'm the guy who has been on the very edge of bankruptcy more than a dozen times over the last 25 years, all the while creating more and more jobs for East Texans who didn't want to take a risk, and wouldn't demand from themselves what I have demanded from myself. I'm the guy you characterize as 'the Americans who can afford it the most' that you believe should be taxed more to provide income redistribution 'to spread the wealth' to those who have never toiled, sweated, fretted, fought, stressed, or risked anything. You want to characterize me as someone who has enjoyed a life of privilege and who needs to pay a higher percentage of my income than those who have bought into your entitlement culture.

I resent you, Mr. Obama, as I resent all who want to use class warfare as a tool to advance their political careers. What's worse, each year more Americans buy into your liberal entitlement culture, and turn to the government for their hope of a better life instead of to themselves. Liberals are succeeding through more than 40 years of collaborative effort between the predominantly liberal media and liberal indoctrination programs in the public school systems across our land.

What is so terribly sad about this is this: America was made great by people who embraced the one-time American culture of self-reliance, self-motivation, self-determination, self-discipline, personal betterment, hard work and risk-taking—a culture built around the concept that success was in reach for every able-bodied American who would strive for it. Each year less Americans embrace that culture, we all descend together. We descend down the socialist path that has brought country after country ultimately to bitter and unremarkable states. If you and your liberal comrades in the media and school systems would spend half as much effort cultivating a culture of can-do across America as you do cultivating your entitlement culture, we could see Americans at large embracing the conviction that they can elevate themselves through personal betterment, personal achievement, and self-reliance. You see, when people embrace such ideals, they act upon them. When people act upon such ideals, they succeed. America could find herself elevating instead of deteriorating. But that would eliminate the need for liberal politicians, wouldn't it, Mr. Obama? The country would not need you if the country was convinced that problem-solving was best left with individuals instead of the government. You and all your liberal comrades have a vested interest in creating a dependent class in our country. It is the very business of liberals to create an ever-expanding dependence on government. What's remarkable is that you, who have never produced a job in your life, are going to tax me to take more of my money and give it to people who wouldn't need my money if they would get off their entitlement-mentality asses and apply themselves at work, demand more from themselves, and quit looking to liberal politicians to raise their station in life.

You see, I know because I've had them work for me before. Hundreds of them over these 25 years. People who simply will not show up to work on time. People who just will not work 5 days a week, much less 6. People always looking for a way to expend less effort. People who actually tell me that they would do more if I would first just pay them more. People who take off work to sit in government offices applying to get free government handouts. (Gee, I wonder how things would have turned out for them if they had spent that time earning money and pleasing their employer?) You see, all of this comes from your entitlement-mentality culture.

Oh, I know you will say I am uncompassionate. Sorry, Mr. Obama, wrong again. You see, I've seen what average percentage of your income has been given to charities over the years of 2000 to 2004 (ignoring the years you started running for office - can you pronounce the words "politically motivated"). You averaged less than 1% annually. And your running mate, Joe Biden, averaged less than ¼% of his annual income in charitable contributions over the last 10 years. Like so many liberals, the two of you want to give to the needy, just as long as it is someone else's money you are giving. I won't say what I have given to charities over the last 25 years, but the percentage is several times more than you or Joe Biden! (Don't you just hate Google?). Tell me again how you feel my pain.

In short, Mr. Obama, your political philosophies represent everything that is wrong with our country. You represent the culture of government-dependence instead of self-reliance; Entitlement mentality instead of personal achievement; Penalization of the successful to reward the unmotivated; Political correctness instead of open-mindedness and open debate. If you are successful, you may preside over the final transformation of America from being the greatest and most self-reliant culture on earth, to just another country of whiners and wimps, who sit around looking to the government to solve their problems. Like all of western Europe. All countries on the decline. All countries that, because of liberal, socialistic mentalities, have a little less to offer mankind every year.

Eagle Ford Shale, Petrohawk Makes 9MMCF/D .. I told you so

Oct 21 (Reuters) - Shares of Petrohawk Energy Corp rose 17 percent on Tuesday, after the company announced a new natural gas field discovery in Eagle Ford Shale in South Texas and its third well in the Haynesville Shale was placed in production at a rate similar to the first two wells.
The oil and natural gas producer said the discovery well in the Eagle Ford Shale was placed on production at a rate of 9.1 million cubic feet of natural gas equivalent per day (Mmcfe/d), and that it has leased over 100,000 net acres in the area.
In a separate statement, Petrohawk said its third operated well in the Haynesville Shale was placed on production at a rate of about 17.0 Mmcfe/d.
The company's first well in the Haynesville Shale had an initial production rate of 16.8 Mmcfe/d and second well tested at a rate of 16.7 Mmcfe/d.
The stock was trading up 13.27 percent at $16.99 in morning trade on the New York Stock Exchange. It had earlier touched a high of $17.55.

GLENN: Let's go to Congressman Culberson. He is from Texas and he has the information on the election being stolen and also I want to talk to him a little bit about, you know, the spending in Washington. Congressman, how are you, sir?

CONGRESSMAN CULBERSON: Good morning, Glenn, it's great to be with you.

GLENN: Can I -- I want to get to the ACORN thing here and what congress and Nancy Pelosi said she was going to do and have more stimulus packages. I have to ask you, sir, what in the name of God are we doing with our currency? We are spending money like there's no tomorrow.

CONGRESSMAN CULBERSON: Glenn, it is terrifying. We in this bailout bill which I voted against twice, my core conservative instincts have never failed me, we've created -- literally we've given the secretary of the treasury the power of the king and King Henry is now free to just essentially do whatever he wants. He's got $700 billion between King Henry and the Federal Reserve prompting vast amounts of cash into the banking system which as far as I can tell the banks are burying the money in the backyard. You are right. They are loading up our kids' future generations are --

GLENN: Congressman, congressman, I talked to a guy -- in fact, I talked to several people this weekend. One of the guys is -- I referred to as my deep throat. He has been in the room with Bernanke and Paulson and everybody else and he has seen all of this stuff. He talked to me over the weekend and he said, "Glenn, everybody I know is reading about the Weimar Republic. He said, the money that is being pumped in is staggering and I don't know how we'll ever pull that money back." He said, we're all reading the Weimar Republic. That's frightening, Congressman.

CONGRESSMAN CULBERSON: It is. And when I first learned about David Walker, the comptroller, the auditor of the U.S. began talking about this years ago, Glenn, on the danger to the country of running up the $60 trillion-plus of unfunded liability, I began carrying around in my wallet, and I have it here now and we need to be sure to get you one as you're one of my heroes, a $50 billion bank note from Zimbabwe, like the Weimar Republic, absolutely.

GLENN: Yeah. And Congressman, I mean, please go to Washington today and talk to them about, again the Treasury is talking about buying into these banks for what is rumored to be at this point a rumor, at $1.8 trillion, to go in and bail these banks out and buy into these banks. This is, A, socialism; and B, where are we getting the $1.8 trillion.

CONGRESSMAN CULBERSON: By selling debt on the international bond market, selling T-bills most of which are bought by the Chinese or Middle Eastern sovereign wealth funds and because the bill says we can bail out foreign banks, that is true statement that we are borrowing -- excuse me. The taxpayers are borrowing money from Chinese and Middle Eastern banks to bail out Chinese and Middle Eastern banks and we are nationalizing, socializing the banking system following the French and British model. And then also don't forget, Glenn, that the bill, the entire thrust of this debate which was dropped on us with no notice and he admits he's known about it for a year. The entire debate, Glenn, was that the purpose of the bill was to buy up the toxic debt.

Now, the bill -- he can do whatever he wants under the bill, but the focus was, hey, guys, you've got to vote for this because we have to buy up this toxic debt.

GLENN: Is it true --

CONGRESSMAN CULBERSON: Nationalize --

GLENN: I'm sorry. Is it true that people were told in your position that there would be martial law if, as one of the consequences if this didn't happen?

CONGRESSMAN CULBERSON: I don't remember that but we were told it was a disaster. We were told it was epic, we're at the cliff and we have to buy up these toxic assets. So all these guys that voted for the bill -- and again I voted against it twice, two of the best no votes I ever cast. But these guys were told this has to be done, it's an emergency, we're going to buy up the toxic debt. It was not -- may have discussed somewhere, somehow, but they were not told that they were going to nationalize the banks. This is literally switching, pivoting off of -- you know, after "Give me the $700 billion, we're going to buy up toxic debt," this weekend Paulson says, no, no, we're not going to do that; we're going to do something else. So all these guys that walked the plank, these Republicans that voted for the bill and other folks that voted for the bill are now being told, you know, your vote didn't leave me anything, we're just going to do something totally different.

GLENN: Unbelievable. So now let's talk about ACORN. What is happening in Houston? There has been a couple of arrests in Houston and this is happening all across the country. Is there -- can we even trust this election, that there won't be massive voter fraud?

CONGRESSMAN CULBERSON: There is going to be voter fraud. We don't know how massive it is but no question, ACORN and other organizations like them are going to be a big part of it because they have pled guilty. I mean, ACORN has literally pled guilty to false -- to fraudulent voter registration. And in Houston we discovered there's about 4,000 dead people on the voter rolls here. It's going on around the country. We're the only nation I think on the face of the Earth that doesn't have a citizenship list, a citizenship roll that you can just check the database against voter rolls, and ACORN has a long history of this, Glenn. And, you know, that's particularly outrageous is that the mortgage bailout, the Freddie and Fannie Mae bailout bill which was done this August which I also voted against because that nationalized the mortgage industry, that bill, Barney Frank voted language in that bill this summer which hard wires $420 of a $100,000 mortgage to ACORN, La Raza and other organizations like --

GLENN: That's an outrage. Why didn't the American people know? That's an absolute outrage.

CONGRESSMAN CULBERSON: And it is forever. It bypass -- I'm on the appropriations committee. It bypasses appropriations, bypasses the congress, it's in your closing documents. This from day forward we will all be paying 4.2% basis fee of $420 for every $100,000 mortgage in your closing paper will have papers. You'll have a new little line in there, a new fee that we're going to all pay to go straight to these affordable housing funds which the states then hard wire to La Raza, ACORN, groups like that.

GLENN: Congressman, what the hell has happened to our country? All of a sudden we are a -- we are marching towards Marxism. We are marching to a place that this -- congressman, you know it and I know it. You are from Texas. This ain't gonna hold. This is not going to last.

CONGRESSMAN CULBERSON: No, it's very scary and I've had a lot of fellow Texans tell me maybe we didn't make such a good decision back in 1845, you know? Maybe we should have stuck it out as the Republic of Texas and it's very scary. It's very scary and it has happened so rapidly, it just takes your breath away that we not only are marching, we are already socialized the mortgage industry. We've already nationalized the banking system. We are becoming France and in Texas we done want to be France.

GLENN: So what does the average person do, Congressman? We have spoken out. You I'm sure you saw it with John McCain over the weekend. People are pissed off. They are saying, I want my country back!

CONGRESSMAN CULBERSON: All of us need to not only register, turn out and vote, demand that candidates, quite frankly we need to adhere I think as Republicans, tuned demand that your election people are going to stick to the Constitution, they are going to essentially follow -- I call myself a Jeffersonian Republican. If we just stick to the core principles, they have always worked. Mr. Jefferson, Glenn -- and remember this is so true. Jefferson always said if we follow core Republican principles, the knot will always untie itself. We've got all the tools we need to solve this and every other problem we've got. It's in the Constitution. You stick to the Tenth Amendment. You get this out of the hands of Washington. Take a breath. A large number of Washington elites are trying to panic the American people into trading in their economic freedom for the promise of putting on a band aid over a mortal wound. The market had already gone down more than 400 points before the vote.
The markets had already discounted the bailout bill as a turkey before Pelosi had insulted the Conservative members of the House. There will be a price to pay for the looting of Fannie and Freddie by the Democrats and their fat cat friends. I want to see this fraud end with a series of perp walks by the folks that stole the money.
The adoption of the Fascist (system by which government and business are intertwined) Bailout Bill for social and political agendas and calming the markets is ludicrous. This social takeover of business and risk is doomed to be a failure and the drop will only become much worse.

These problems were not caused by free markets. They were caused by government forcing banks to give loans to people that were not creditworthy. Surprise, Uncle Sugar gave you a loan you can’t afford and you have bad credit. Is there any doubt a large number of folks will walk? The Black Caucus, ACORN and I’m sure a few well meaning liberals thought they could social engineer the free enterprise system and make more Marxist. These groups don’t want the deadbeats to pay for their mistakes nor do they to take the blame for this government debacle.

I am sick of hearing all of the “green” biz words flying around the air waves these days. Our society has been sustained for thousands of years with only a few setbacks from time to time. Our petroleum economy is alive and well despite the efforts of too many misguided eco-tards and politicians.

I refuse to operate on the basis that the world will end tomorrow. If only I will give up my “God given” and the hard fought freedoms earned by the blood and sweat of my American hero’s to a twit the likes of Obama or Al Gore is unthinkable.

Hurricane Ike has given me a personal lesson in sustainability. We lost power Friday night at 10:30 PM from the winds of Ike. Sunday all the ice had melted. Ice is energy needed to preserve food. Neighbors had generators but they soon ran out of gasoline. We could not preserve food. Gas lines were more than a mile long and purchases were limited to $20. Small generators suck up more than a gallon an hour. For the lack of a $1 bag of ice or $4 a gallon gasoline I had to throw away a $100 worth of food. Our situation was un-sustainable with the current lack of technology brought on by the hurricane.

Now is the time for the real Americans to step up and fight for our common interest. If you have never made a payroll or been responsible for providing real hard work on the behalf of others you have no business in redirecting our society towards un-sustainable business model such Al Gore’s or Obama’s half-baked ideas of utopia.

Carbon Dioxide is a harmless useful gas that God has placed on our planet for the use of men, oil and natural gas are stored solar energies that helps us provide for our families and improve our lives. Eco-tards are dangerous fools. Only a fool would back a un- sustainable, historically discredited utopian model for our future when we have a sustainable model to follow. Recovering from Hurricane Ike

Ike was my grandfather’s name. He was a doughboy in World War 1. I remember him as being hard to deal with before he passed away in the 80’s. He survived the great depression, the Kilgore oil boom and the trenches in Europe to keep the family farm together.

We haven’t had power since the night of the storm. We’ve thrown away all our spoiled food and gone on endless searches for ice and food. Lines at the few open service stations are measured in miles.

We’re here. Galveston, not so much. I’m just now getting to see what’s left.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently called congressional Republicans who want up-or-down drilling votes "handmaidens of the oil companies." Let's call Pelosi what she is: House girl of the Big Wind boondogglers.

Though she seemingly backtracked on labeling drilling a "hoax" this week, Pelosi refuses to consider GOP energy proposals that don't include massive government subsidies for so-called eco-alternatives that have never panned out.

Which brings us to the Speaker's 2007 financial disclosure form. Schedule III lists "Assets and Unearned Income" of between $100,001-$250,000 from Clean Energy Fuels Corp.-Public Common Stock.

Clean Energy Fuels Corp. (CLNE) is a natural gas provider founded by T. Boone Pickens. Yep, that T. Boone Pickens — ex-oilman turned wind-power evangelist whose ads touting a national wind campaign are now as ubiquitous as Viagra promos.

Pickens and Pelosi share the same talking points downplaying the need to drill and open up more access to American oil. Instead, the Pickens pie-in-the-sky plan proposes to replace natural gas with wind power in power generation and theoretically free up natural gas for America's transportation needs.

All well and good in la-la land, but let's be real about the limitations and costs of wind power. Past and ongoing experience demonstrates the unreliability of wind and the miserably low operating capacity of wind-power facilities here and around the world.

Depending on wind requires supplemental fossil fuel plants as backup to be turned on and off to compensate for wind-power supply shortfalls — nullifying any reductions in carbon dioxide emissions, which are minuscule, according to the National Academy of Sciences.

Not to mention the thousands of sliced-up birds and other wildlife that have become wind-power casualties — a problem scientists say would be solved by "repowering" old turbines at a cost of untold billions.

Fittingly, the environmental mascot of the Democratic National Convention — the showcase of their alternative energy approach — is an eastern Colorado wind turbine propped up with Democratic carbon-credit funds that has never produced any substantial energy because of its chronic equipment malfunctions.

But I digress.

Naturally, the Pickens Big Wind plan is proudly endorsed by Do-Nothing Pelosi's friends at the obstructionist Sierra Club. Through another company, Mesa Power, Pickens has committed upward of $12 billion in wind farms on the Texas panhandle.

CLNE and Mesa Power are separate entities, but what benefits one piece of the Pickens puzzle benefits them all. The wind venture, as Pickens himself acknowledges, depends on permanent federal subsidies.

Pickens is banking on 'em. And Pelosi is banking on him. As reported on dontgo-movement.com, Speaker Pelosi bought between $50,000 and $100,000 worth of stock in Pickens' CLNE Corp. in May 2007 on the day of the initial public offering:

"She, and other investors, stand to gain a substantial return on their investment if gasoline prices stay high, and municipal, state and even the federal governments start using natural gas as their primary fuel source. If gasoline prices fall? Alternative fuels and the cost to convert fleets over to them become less and less attractive."

CLNE also happens to be the sponsor of Proposition 10, a ballot initiative in Pelosi's home state of California to dole out a combined $10 billion in state and federal funds for renewable energy incentives — namely, natural gas and wind.

Follow the money. Or, to put it in economist's terms as energy analyst Kenneth Medlock III did in an interview with the Dallas Morning News about the Pickens multibillion dollar wind farm investment: "A lot of what he's trying to do is add value to a stranded asset . . . he's obviously got millions of dollars on the line."

And so, potentially, does the Speaker of the House — all the while wagging her finger at the financial motivation of others.

TXCO Resources reports strong Pearsall well flows

TXCO Resources Inc. has provided initial test results on its Myers 2-683H well targeting the Maverick Basin’s Pearsall shale gas resource play.

Following completion of a five-stage fracture stimulation, the well (100 percent working interest through completion) flowed an average of approximately 3.5 million cubic feet of gas per day and 2,500 barrels per day of frac fluid at 3,875 psi flowing tubing pressure. Flow rates continue to rise as the well returns frac fluid.

The well is TXCO’s third horizontal Pearsall well to be fracture stimulated this year and the first to be successfully treated with five stages. It is the first Pearsall well in which the horizontal lateral, 3,000 feet long, was fully cased, cemented and perforated for limited entry. Also, the Company conducted microseismic monitoring from a nearby offset well during the treatment, allowing it to observe and modify the stimulation in real time. The Myers well provides TXCO with valuable data that will be used to improve future frac designs on other Pearsall wells to be drilled and fracture-stimulated in the future.

TXCO’s combined Pearsall project area exposes the Company to the overpressured shale play on more than 848,000 gross acres (340,000 net acres) across the Maverick Basin in Southwest Texas.

The storm must have sucked all the sense out of Dan's head as well a generations of would be so called journalist.

Horizontal Drilling Ushers in Oil Boom

While the technology for horizontal drilling has been around for at least two decades, it did not become a profitable option for oil and gas companies until a few years ago.

Now nearly every rig drilling in the Haynesville Shale is a horizontal well. They allow more pipe to be exposed to the rock, increasing the amount of natural gas that can be pumped out.

Horizontal drilling became useful 20 years ago during Austin Chalk oil play in Pearsall, Texas, said Ray Lasseigne, president of TMR Exploration in Bossier City. "It's used for drilling oil and gas reservoirs. It's especially useful in naturally fractured reservoirs, carbonate or limestone."

The process starts with a rig and a crew of about four drill hands and a driller, who begin putting thousands of feet of pipe into the ground.

The drill hands put the pipe into the well bore and connect each section together, while the driller controls the drill bit.

"There really ain't a whole lot to it," said drilling supervisor Tom Autry, who works on the Trinidad 104 rig in south Caddo Parish. "It's simple operations."

The Trinidad 104 is a Chesapeake Energy Corp. rig drilling into the Haynesville Shale.

Once the hole gets to a certain depth, Autry said, a device called a "mud motor" starts to drill at a different angle to curve the pipe into a horizontal position.

All the drilling is controlled from the confines of a control room that sits atop the drill platform. From there, the directional driller can turn the motor in the direction needed to curve the pipe.

Autry said the steel pipes are flexible and can bend easily without breaking.

Lasseigne compared the pipe's flexibility to a clothes hanger. If a hanger is untwisted at the top and straightened out, he said, it can wiggle and easily bend into a circle.

It takes 500 to 600 feet for the drill to make a 90-degree turn.

Drilling horizontally allows the pipe to be exposed to up to 10 times more rock than vertical drilling.

Once the hole is drilled and new pipes are inserted, the fracturing and perforation process begins.

Perforating means punching holes in the pipe. Fracturing is opening the rock to release the natural gas so it can flow into the perforations.

A mixture of water and sand is sent through the pipe at high pressure, causing it to flow through the holes in the pipe and fracture the rock. The water flows back into and out of the pipe, leaving the sand to keep the fractures open and allow the gas to seep into the pipe.

Production valves, storage tanks and access pipelines connected to larger transmission systems are installed so the natural gas can be transported to the marketplace.

The cost of each well is about $6 million to $8 million.

McCain Needs to Dump the Global Warming Hoax and Follow Inhofe’s Lead

Not every Republican Senator running for re-election this year is in trouble, as a new poll conducted for the Tulsa World shows Oklahoman Jim Inhofe in good position to keep his job for another six years. While Washington may not be popular these days, the Senior Sooner boasts an approval rating of 61%.

The Oklahoma Poll, conducted 7/19-23, surveyed 750 likely voters for a margin of error of +/- 3.6%. Inhofe and State Senator Andrew Rice were tested among a sample made up of 53% self-identified Democrats, 42% self-identified Republicans and 5% independents.
